2021 World Snooker Championship – Day 8 Betting Picks
Betting-Previews brings you free 2021 World Snooker Championship betting previews and predictions for Saturday, April 24. Check out our best for Mark Allen v Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy vs Yan Bingtao.
Mark Allen v Mark Selby
Saturday, April 24 – 14:30 BST
When picking up a winner, you first need to check the head-to-head record of these two. And you quickly come to realize Mark Allen and Mark Selby tend to produce close matches.
Out of 12 meetings, between these two, we saw seven deciders. Granted, it was Allen who came out ahead 6-2 and 9-2 in their last two meetings.
Despite his recent success against Selby, Allen enters this match as an underdog, which seems about fair. Since his 0-4 loss to Judd Trump in Gibraltar Open quarter-finals in March, Allen has played only one game, when he beat Lyu Haotian 10-2 in the 2021 World Championship 1/16 finals.
Selby, on the other side, has played plenty of games in March and hasn’t disappointed with his 10-1 victory over Kurt Maflin last stage.
While we don’t have a problem with Selby priced as the favorite, it’s clear that there is not much to set these two apart. And that suggests we might be in for another close series.
Neither got properly tested in their last outing, making this match that much more exciting to watch. Whoever wins here will emerge as a serious contender for the title, and while we aren’t confident in predicting the victor, we can say for certain this one will be long and tight affair.
Prediction: Over 22.50 frames
Shaun Murphy v Yan Bingtao
Saturday, April 24 – 19:00 BST
Yan Bingtao made his Crucible debut four years ago when he faced no other than Shaun Murphy. It was a close match, which ended in favor of Murphy who came away with a 10-8 victory.
A lot of time has passed since and a lot has changed. And by that, we mostly refer to Murphy’s drop in form – particularly this season.
Murphy hasn’t achieved much in 2021, whereas Bingtao scooped up his first Triple Crown win, and with the way he has been playing of late, it certainly won’t be his last one.
Bingtao enters this match off a 10-6 victory against Martin Gould. It marked his seventh win in his last eight outings – losing only to Joe Perry in the Championship League semi-finals.
Murphy, meanwhile, picked up his third consecutive win against Mark Davis, who he beat 10-7 on Thursday. Although a solid showing from “The Magician”, he will have to show a bit more magic on Saturday if he wishes to take one step closer to his second title.
Bingtao And Murphy last met in February 2020, when Yan won 6-1. Murphy will surely have a lot to prove after that defeat, but it’s hard to confidently say he will manage to do so.
Bingtao has been in phenomenal form and if you believe he will manage to continue playing with the same fire, you can’t really make a case against him. This one could prove to be a close one, but we like Bingtao better.
Prediction: Yan Bingtao to win
