The fourth round of 2022/23 A-League has already produced a thrilling affair between Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets, yet it’s not nearly done. This Saturday, October 29, we have an exciting set of matches to look forward to in Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory, Central Coast Mariners s Western United, and Macarthur FC vs Sydney FC.
Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory Betting Pick
- When: Saturday, October 29 – 14:00 AEST
- Where: Moreton Daily Stadium in Brisbane, Australia
- Weather: Sunny, 31°C
Brisbane Roar earned a hard-fought draw (1-1) against Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend, thanks to Charlie Austin, who finally got his name on the board for the team via a 50’ equaliser. Although the Roar would prefer to lock in all three points, a draw against WS Wanderers has surely introduced a breath of optimism in the Brisbane camp as they get ready for their next match.
Priced as the underdogs, Brisbane Roar should feel optimistic about their chances to take down Melbourne Victory, against who they have a solid head-to-head record. The Roar have won two and drawn three from their last six meetings, which is not terrible. Moreover, it’s not like Melbourne Victory have looked too dangerous this A-League season.
After winning their opening match of the season against Sydney FC (3-2), Melbourne Victory struggled to find the same success, losing against WS Wanderers (0-1) and Melbourne City (0-2), which now sits them in seventh place, with three points and a -2 goal difference.
However, had Josh Brillante not been shown a red card last weekend, Victory would probably have won the Melbourne Derby. Moreover, Victory took 11 shots in that match and looked pretty solid throughout, even though the final score might not suggest that.
This match can easily go both ways, so at the offered A-League betting odds, we have to side with Melbourne Victory to take down the Roar!
- Prediction: Melbourne Victory to win
Central Coast Mariners vs Western United Betting Pick
- When: Saturday, October 29 – 17:15 AEDT
- Where: Glen Willow Oval in Mudgee, Australia
- Weather: Partly Sunny, 15°C
Two A-League bottom feeders in Central Coast Mariners and Western United are set to lock horns on Saturday at Glen Willow Oval in what promises to be an exciting clash.
Central Coast Mariners enter the match following a devastating (1-2) defeat against Perth Glory, which came straight after a fairly solid display against the Nix (2-2). The Mariners would have won against Perth Glory had Danny Vukovic not had a terrible showing, conceding as many goals as he made saves.
Luckily for the Mariners, it’s unlikely for their captain to have another horrific showing and we must also consider that they’re taking on a team that tends to produce just one goal per match. Last time out, WU played a draw against Macarthur FC (1-1) whilst producing 21 shots (seven on goal). Not a particularly bad display, granted it highlights Western United’s main issue – poor shot conversion.
It seems unlikely that things will look much better this weekend, considering that WU have historically struggled to score goals against CCM, with four goals across their last four meetings, including a goal-less fixture in April (0-1). Moreover, as visitors, Western United have yet to beat the Mariners, and with their current form, it will definitely be a struggle to break that streak.
Western United can make life tougher for Central Coast Mariners, but CCM should keep all three points at home unless WU start using the ball better.
- Prediction: Central Coast Mariners +0.00
Macarthur FC vs Sydney FC Betting Pick
- When: Saturday, October 29 – 19:45 AEDT
- Where: Campbelltown Stadium in Sydney, Australia
- Weather: Partly Sunny, 21°C
Macarthur FC and Sydney FC will clash in the final match of the day in a highly anticipated rivalry which never disappoints. At least that’s what we got used to seeing every time the Sydney Derby is on the schedule.
The last three meetings between Sydney FC and Macarthur FC saw at least two goals, which includes a 2-2 stalemate in March and a surprisingly one-sided Sydney FC victory (3-0) in December. And as the latest A-League betting odds suggest, the visitors should come out ahead again, granted, likely by a much smaller margin.
Macarthur FC are 1-2-0 on the season, with two draws against Brisbane Roar (0-0) and Western United (1-1) and a win against Adelaide United (2-0). Sydney FC, on the other side, are 1-1-1 with an opening-round loss against Melbourne Victory (2-3), a win against Western United (3-1) and a draw from last week’s clash against Adelaide United (2-2).
With seven goals scored and six conceded over the three matches, Sydney FC clearly like to be involved in high-scoring affairs. Macarthur FC are the complete opposite, with the league-lowest combined goals at 3-1. They’ve conceded just one goal thus far – against the highly offensive WU, who they’ve let shoot the ball 21 times, which won’t fly against Sydney FC.
Everything points towards another explosive game and if the team’s showings this season, in combination with their past head-to-head results, mean anything, expecting both teams to find the back of the net at least once isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
- Prediction: Both Teams To Score
