The fifth round of 2022/23 A-League comes to an end on Sunday, November 6, with a batch of exciting matches in Wellington Phoenix vs Macarthur FC, Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC, and Western United vs Adelaide.
Wellington Phoenix vs Macarthur FC Betting Pick
- When: Sunday, November 6 – 15:00 NZD
- Where: Sky Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand
- Weather: Sunny, 17°C
This season wasn’t too kind for Wellington Phoenix, who have yet to win a match; however, they have secured three draws against Adelaide United (1-1), Central Coast Mariners (2-2), and Melbourne City, against who the Nix forced a 2-2 draw last week.
On the other side, Macarthur FC have produced one more win than Wellington Phoenix, albeit that came in the second round against Adelaide United (2-0). Since then, the Bulls have colluded a draw against Western United (1-1) and a loss against Sydney FC (2-3).
As both teams still look to find traction this season, they will no doubt like to show up on Sunday, when they’ll look to bounce back and start contesting the top spots in the league table. And while both teams have the tools to win, it’s easy to see why the Nix are the favourites.
Wellington Phoenix are undefeated in 16 of their last 19 home games; however, Macarthur are undefeated in six consecutive road games – a perfect recipe for an exciting affair. Moreover, both teams have shown that they can score goals with a +1 goal/game average, granted it’s fair to say that Macarthur are a bit more attack-minded.
All things considered, this should be an exciting match, and it’s not too crazy to believe that we’ll see at least one goal per side.
- Prediction: Both teams to score
Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC Betting Pick
- When: Sunday, November 6 – 14:00 AEST
- Where: Moreton Daily Stadium in Brisbane, Australia
- Weather: Sunny, 26°C
Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC might not be recognised as rival teams, but it’s no secret that they don’t like each other and that Roar and Sydney always produce quality football when they clash. Their last match is a perfect example of that.
Brisbane Roar won that match (in May) 3-1, marking their first H2H victory since 2019, upping their head-to-head record over the last five to 1-2-2. Whether the Roar will manage to emulate that success on Sunday is anyone’s guess, but based on what we’ve seen from the teams this season, another high-scoring affair is likely on the cards.
Sydney FC have been holding on much better this season with a 2-1-1 record, in contrast to Brisbane Roar, who are 0-3-1. So while you could make a case for the Roar to win, we are leaning more toward Sydney.
Sydney FC have been struggling this season – mainly in the defence – but they have a lot of quality, which is something we can’t say about Brisbane, who seem to be lacking in all departments. It could be close, but Sydney FC enter this match as a more stable and convincing team.
- Prediction: Sydney FC to win
Western United vs Adelaide United Betting Pick
- When: Sunday, November 6 – 17:00 AEDT
- Where: AAMI Park in Melbourne, Australia
- Weather: Cloudy, 21°C
Western United and Adelaide United have a very interesting head-to-head record, seeing how two of their last four meetings have ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Still, their last two outings both produced a winner, once Western United (1-0 in December 2021) and Adelaide United (2-1 in May 2022).
Adelaide United enter this match in solid form, as they picked up their first victory of the season last week, over Perth Glory (2-1). On the other side, Western United have yet to taste victory (0-1-3) and have managed to grab just one point – with a 1-1 draw against the Bulls – over the four outings.
Desperation must be setting in for the reigning champions, and while their situation looks far from great, it’s not like Adelaide have shown much more. On that note, with the players on these two clubs, Adelaide and WU should be doing much better than they are so the question is, when will we see them wake up and start producing the expected results?
A win on Sunday will do either of the two teams a lot of good, so we expect them to give their all, and that usually results in a scrappy all-out performance and plenty of goals. So this should be a perfect affair to close out the fifth round of 2022/23 A-League!
- Prediction: Over 2.5 goals
