The sixth round of the 2022/23 A-League season kicks off on Friday, November 11, with a clash between two longstanding rivals, Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory. And with the second spot on the line, we can safely assume that this derby will be a fiery one.
Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory
- When: Friday, November 11 – 19:15 ACDT
- Where: Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, Australia
- Weather: Partly Sunny, 19°C
Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory will lock horns on Friday, November 11, for the first time since April, when VIctory edged out a 1-0 victory at Coopers Stadium. It was a fairly close affair – like most meetings between these two clubs are – and according to the latest A-League odds, this one will be no different.
Adelaide United – In Great Form
Adelaide United head into the sixth round of the 2022/23 A-League season with a very solid 2-2-1 record, which includes just one loss in the second round (0-2 vs Macarthur FC). Since that defeat, Adelaide played a draw against Sydney FC (2-2) and picked up back-to-back wins against Perth Glory (2-1) and Western United, who they beat 4-2 last week.
Adelaide’s commanding victory against the Green & Black marked just another excellent performance from the Reds, and if they can keep at it, Adelaide will surprise many. There’s still some work left to be done, though, namely in the defence, where Adelaide United have yet to impress.
Five rounds in, Adelaide have conceded eight goals, which is the most out of all top-five teams in the league. But they’ve also scored the fourth-most goals at nine, eight in their last three outings.
Melbourne Victory – A Chance To Break Into Top Three
Melbourne Victory have accumulated seven points five rounds deep into the 2022/23 season, which sits them in a three-way tie with Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC. On a more positive note, VIctory have not lost a match across the last two rounds.
After starting the season with a strong showing against Sydney FC (3-2), Melbourne Victory slipped and dropped back-to-back games against WS Wanderers (0-1) and Melbourne City (0-2). But once faced with weaker sides in Brisbane Road (0-0) and Newcastle Jets (4-0), Victory showed up.
Compared to Adelaide United, Victory have produced fewer goals (7), but they’ve also conceded 1.00 per game on average (5). But just like Adelaide, Victory have been far more active with the ball lately, namely last week, when they scored four goals against the Jets.
Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory Betting Odds
Adelaide United are priced as 2.60 (2.66 Pinnacle) underdogs for this match, Melbourne Victory as slight favourites at 2.55 (2.56 Pinnacle), while a draw is priced at 3-60 (3.88 PInnacle).
The odds have not moved much since the market opened – Adelaide opened at 2.68 and VIctory at 2.51.
Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory A-League Betting Picks
Based on the team’s performances this season and their head-to-head record, there is very little to separate Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory, and our best assessment of this match is that it’s anyone’s game.
We are leaning more towards the Victory, mainly because most of their players will have something to prove after not getting picked to travel to Qatar. Still, one thing is for certain – this will be a competitive affair.
- Prediction: Over 2.5 goals
