Adelaide United and Perth Glory will lock horns on Sunday, October 30, on the final day of the 2022/23 A-League Round 4. It will mark their first meeting since April when Adelaide United secured their second consecutive H2H victory over the Glory.
Adelaide United vs Perth Glory
- When: Sunday, October 30– 13:30 ACDT
- Where: Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, Australia
- Weather: Cloudy, 18°C
Adelaide United have yet to taste victory this season, but they’ll look to change that on Sunday, when they play host to the unconvincing Perth Glory, who scored their first three points last week.
Adelaide United – An Unfortunate Week
Adelaide United enter this match following a devastating draw (2-2) against Sydney FC, who Adelaide should have beaten. And they likely would have won had Hiroshi Ibusuki not received a controversial red card in the 40th minute.
Before the red card, Adelaide were 1-0 up, but then conceded two in 48’ and 53’. And yet, despite playing with only ten men, Adelaide found a way to edge out a draw with a 58’ goal, which is impressive. Unfortunately, Adelaide United couldn’t find a way to come out on top, but they played well and deserved some praise for their performance.
Adelaide United also didn’t look particularly terrible in their opening two matches of the 2022/23 A-League season. They drew their season opener against Wellington Phoenix (1-1) and lost against Macarthur FC (0-2). Obviously, there’s not much to praise here, but Adelaide is better than their current record might suggest.
Perth Glory – On The Rise
Perth Glory started the new season with back-to-back defeats against WS Wanderers (0-1) and Newcastle Jets (1-2), but that hasn’t stopped them from bouncing back. Last week, Perth Glory took down Central Coast Mariners as 4.20 underdogs and even though they weren’t expected to win, the Glory played well enough to deserve all three points.
Much of Perth Glory’s success this season is thanks to midfielder Aaron McEneff, who already found the back of the net twice and is a man to watch this Sunday. There are other solid pieces in this team, but from what we’ve seen from Perth, they seem more like a team that can play well rather than a squad that will be good.
Perth Glory will have a lot to prove in their fourth away game of the season, but beating Adelaide at the renovated Coopers Stadium might be a tough ask. Admittedly, Adelaide United sit below Perth Glory in the A-League standings, but we’ve seen far more stable performances from the hosts.
Adelaide United vs Perth Glory Betting Odds
Adelaide United enter this bout as 1.70 (1.71 Pinnacle) favourites, Perth Glory as 4.75 (5.00 Pinnacle) underdogs, while a draw is priced at 3.80 (4.06 Pinnacle). Interestingly, Adelaide opened as 1.64 favourites last week, yet the odds seemed to have risen a bit following their draw against Sydney.
Whether that was an appropriate response from the market is debatable, but in our book, that result didn’t show the accurate picture.
Adelaide United vs Perth Glory A-League Betting Picks
Adelaide United are 2-1-2 against Perth Glory across their last five meetings, but they’ve not lost a single H2H match since May 2021. At home, Adelaide are 2-0-3 against Perth Glory, but those figures date back to 2018, so most of the results should be taken with a grain of salt.
There’s a good reason why Adelaide are priced as the favourite, and we can’t argue with the logic. They should’ve won their A-League Round 3 clash and now enter this match with a lot to prove.
Notably, Ibusuki will be back and eager to make up for his mistake and seeing how well he works with Craig Goodwin – who looked very potent against Sydney – Adelaide United certainly look like a stronger team in this contest.
- Prediction: Adelaide United to win
