Brisbane Bullets v Cairns Taipans – NBL Betting Preview and Prediction

Everything is set for Brisbane Bullets and Cairns Taipans clash this Friday, October 11, at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, where Brisbane will hunt for their second win of the season against Taipans who have suffered a 71:79 defeat at the hands of Sydney in round one.

Brisbane Bullets fresh off a win against Hawks

Brisbane are coming into this fixture following a 90:81 win against Illawarra Hawks, who failed to stop Patterson, who scored 25 points and added eight rebounds and four assists, to help Brisbane win at WIN Entertainment Centre. To be fair, it was not only Patterson, but it’s only fair to say the whole team played very well throughout all four quarters. The first quarter was highly entertaining as neither team held back with their scoring, which resulted in a 53-point quarter, where it was Bullets who came out ahead, but only just (27:26). The second quarter ended in a tie at 21:21, meaning teams entered the second half with only one point between them (48:47), meaning the match was still wide open for either side to win. That, however, changed in the third quarter, where Bullets ran away with a solid performance which increased their lead by an additional eight points (22:14). The last quarter was again a tie at 20:20, meaning Brisbane won the match with nine points to spare, due to their strong show in the third quarter and solid defence in the last quarter.

As mentioned Patterson walked away with a massive 25 points, followed by Sobey with 17 and Hodgson with 14. On the other side, Brooks was the best scorer at Hawks with 23 points, followed by Ogilvy with 13 and Ball who achieved a double-double in his debut match with 12 points and 10 rebounds, to which he added five assists. Still, it was not enough to help his team overcome Brisbane.

Cairns chasing their first win of the season

Cairns performance against Sydney was a mixed bag of good and bad, which ultimately turned in a 71:79 defeat. That being said, Cairns looked very strong in the first quarter, where they crushed the star-studded Sydney and earned a 20:13 lead. That slowly disappeared as the match progressed. In the second quarter (21:24), Sydney managed to reduce the gap to four points, only to lose the third quarter (22:20), meaning Cairns entered the last quarter with a six-point lead. In most cases six-point lead is huge and should Cairns produce anything similar to first as in first or third quarter, they would have managed an upset. That being said, things did not go as planned for them.

Kings entered the last quarter with all guns blazing and demolished the home side, who could not find an answer to Sydney’s strong offence and solid defence which kept Cairns at only eight points while Kings ended up scoring 22! A complete turnaround in the last quarter resulted in Kings securing their first win of the season with eight points to spare (79:71).

Top three scorers of the match were all Sydney players. Ware scored 23, Lisch 18 and Tate 14. Cairns had Noi (14 points), Oliver (13) and Machado (13 points) as top three contributors as far as points are concerned. Noi also added 12 rebounds, Oliver added four rebounds and three assists, whereas Machado had three points, six assists and two steals on top of his 13 points.

Verdict & Prediction

It’s no surprise Brisbane Bullets are the favourites here, as they do come off as a team with stronger individuals compared to Friday’s visitors. While we can’t ignore how strong Cairns looked against Sydney in the first and third quarter, it was their fourth quarter that makes us believe they the team is nowhere near where they need to be to derail Brisbane.

What makes Cairns’ chances even slimmer is an incredible performance from Patterson, who will enter this fixture on fire. And if he can produce anything similar to what he did last Sunday, Cairns and their defence will suffer. Expect a dominant show from the home side as they climb their way to the second win of the season.
