Brisbane Roar will play host to Perth Glory on Wednesday, June 2, in their penultimate match of the 2021 A-League regular season. These teams last met in February, when Glory won 3-1 in Perth, however, achieving the same success at Moreton Daily Stadium won’t be as easy.
Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory
When: Wednesday, June 2 – 19:05 AEST
Where: Moreton Daily Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland
Weather: Partly cloudy, 17°C
Referee: Chris Beath
Brisbane Roar have only two more games left to be played before the end of the regular season. They’re currently in the #6 position, which they will want to keep a hold of, but with Wellington Phoenix breathing behind their necks, the hosts are in dire need of points from this bout.
Perth Glory still have a chance to make it into the Playoffs, however, that seems like an unlikely outcome. They’re four points short of Roar and the final spot leading into the postseason, meaning their faith is not entirely in their hands.
Brisbane Roar Need a Win to Secure the Playoffs
A win against Perth Glory would book Brisbane Roar a ticket in the quarterfinal of the Australian A-League Playoffs, no matter what happens in their final match of the season. That alone should be a good enough motivation, considering Brisbane still need to face no.2 Sydney FC.
That said, the hosts haven’t been showing good form of late. Warren Moon’s men enter this match with a 2-1-2 record in their last five and come off a 0-2 loss against WS Wanderers.
They have two losses in their last four outings, however, both of those defeats happened came on the road. At home, the Roar are more than okay.
Brisbane Roar haven’t suffered a defeat in Queensland since early February. They have also lost only one home fixture against Perth Glory in their last four. Their most recent duel at Moreton Daily Stadium finished in a 1-1 draw.
However, that happened way back in February 2020. Their most recent duel (played in Perth) ended with Perth Glory winning 3-1.
Playoff Battle is (Almost) Over for Perth Glory
Perth Glory have two more games left to play before the end of the season. If they win both, they will get to 39 points, however, that might not be enough for them to qualify for the postseason.
Of course, this doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try. Winning against Brisbane Roar seems like a big challenge, especially knowing that in the final round, Perth Glory need to face Newcastle Jets – the worst team in the league.
Unlike Brisbane, Perth Glory have been showing good form, with four wins and two draws in the last six games. That said, Perth are without a single win on the road since February 5 and are one of the worst away teams in the league.
There is no surprise there, considering most A-League teams are located in Eastern Australia, while Perth resides on the west coast. To get to Brisbane, Perth Glory players need to take a five-hour flight, which won’t do them any favors.
Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory Betting Picks
These two teams are similar in many ways. They both field talented players and should be motivated to win on Wednesday.
The only significant difference is that Brisbane Roar are very efficient when playing at home, whereas Perth Glory haven’t achieved much on the road this season (2-3-6). They’re 0-2-3 in their last five and winless in their last seven. And that could prove to be the decisive factor in this game!
Prediction: Brisbane Roar -0.50 Asian Handicap
