Burnley v West Ham – Premier League

Burnley v West Ham - Premier League

Burnley v West Ham - Premier League

The 20th Round of Premier League will be the last round before we step into 2019. Most of the teams already finished their 20th game of the season, however, there are 8 teams that will do so today. We will focus on the match between Burnley and West Ham, which will take place at Turf Moor, the home of Burnley.

The home side, Burnley are currently sitting in the relegation zone, with 12 points and 3-3-13 record in the 19 games played. Looking at their most recent 5 games, Burnley has won only once against Brighton (1:0), but failed to do the same in all of the next 3 games against; Tottenham (1:0), Arsenal (3:1) and most recently Everton (1:5). As of now, they are on a 3 game losing streak and Burnley will hope to break the bad run with a win today. At home, Burnley is 2-1-6 with a 1-0-4 in the past 5 games. Looking at their most recent match against Everton, Burnley were behind 3 goals only 22 minutes into the match and even at this point it was clear this won’t be an easy match for them. Burnley did manage to score a goal of their own in the 1st half (45th minute), but they still needed 2 more to tie the match. In the second half Burnley only managed to shoot on goal once, and even that unsuccessfully. Everton on the other side had 3 shots on goal, 2 of which were successful. In other words, Everton scored 2 more goals in the 2nd half. The match ended with a final score of 1:5, which was a much-needed win for Everton after their defeat against Tottenham.

West Hame are currently 11th in the league with an 8-3-8 record and an impressive 4-0-1 in the last 5 games. In the span of the last 5 games, West Ham won against Cardiff (3:1), Crystal Palace (3:2), Fulham (0:2) and most recently Southampton (1:2). The only team that managed to win against West Ham was Watford (0:2). Looking at West Ham last game, we did not see any goals in the 1st half, despite 3-7 goal attempts. The opener was scored in the 50th minute when Southampton scored. Only 3 minutes later West Ham responded with a goal of their own, to which they added another one in the 59th minute. In the second half we saw a total of 17 goal attempts (8-9) and 8 shots on goal (4-4), however, we saw only the 3 goals being scored in the span of 9 minutes. Final score: 1:2.

West Ham are a better side here, as they have been performing far better than Burnley lately. West Ham have not lost an away game in 5 games and won all of the last 3 away games played. Burnley on the other side won only 1 out of the last 5 home games. However, there is 1 thing I am concerned about. West Ham is coming into this match with 1 resting day less that Burnley which just might have a big enough impact on them to give Burnley a slight edge. Taking that into consideration, we won’t be betting on West Ham, so let’s look at the Over/Under market. Burnley has scored 4 and conceded 14 goals in the last 5 home games, whereas West Ham scored 9 and conceded 3 in the last 5 away games. With Burnley poor defence, this match can easily end in over 2.5 goals. They can find a way to score against their opponents, in fact, they did so in the 4 out of the last 5 home games, but the problem is that they let in way too many goals. 4 out of the last 5 games ended in over 2,5 goals and with West Ham good offence this season I believe we will see at least 3 goals today.

Prediction: Over 2.50 goals
Odds: 1.97 Asianodds
