Chicago Bears v Green Bay Packers – NFL Betting Preview and Prediction

Two of the oldest rivals in NFL history, Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers will clash tonight, Friday, September 6, at Soldier Field, Chicago in the opening fixture of 2019 NFL season. You can read our NFL betting preview and NFL betting prediction below.

Matt Nagy second year in charge

Matt Nagy enters his second year in charge of Bears following a very successful run in 2018. An impressive 12-4 was a huge improvement compared to Bear’s 2017 season when they finished 5-11. While a huge improvement, Bear suffered an early exit in 1/8 finals of playoffs, when they kneeled down to Philadelphia Eagles (15-16). Nonetheless, with a solid run last term, another playoffs appearance is in the plans for Nagy and his men in 2019. That being said, Bears enter the new season with quite a few changes to their roster.

Chicago lost Amos to Green bay Packers, Bryce Callahan, Josh Bellamy, Kevin White and Jordan Howard on top of their defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who got offered a head coaching position in Denver. On the other side, Bears added Buster Skrine, Ted Larsen and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to name a few, in addition to bringing in former Colts’ head coach Chuck Pagano as a replacement for Fangio. Some questions are surrounding whether Chuck Pagano is the right man for the job as the defensive coordinator. While we cannot praise him too much for his head coaching in Indianapolis, we do believe Chuck Pagano should shine once more as a defensive coordinator as he did in Ravens in 2011.

Green Bay Packers looking for a playoffs ticket

Green Bay Packers finished last season with a disastrous 6-1-9 season, which resulted in Packers missing the playoffs for the fourth season in a row. Yet another failure to earn a spot in the final stage of the season resulted in the firing of their long-time head coach Mike McCarthy, who has been with the team since 2006. His replacement is no other than former Rams’ and Titans’ offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, who will get a shot at proving himself as a head coach in the first time in his career. On top of a new coach, Packers have also seen some turnover in their squad. A few of the most notable departures at the Bays are Clay Matthews, Randall Cobb, Mike Daniels and Nick Perry, who got replaced by some solid additions in Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith and Marcedes Lewis.

When it comes to Green Bay Packers, we can’t help but view them as a team which boast with an incredible line-up, yet somehow manage to underachieve year after year. With that in mind, seeing LaFleur as their new head coach comes off as a shock, considering he has no prior head coaching experience and raises serious doubts whether he can help Packers improve this season. Furthermore, it’s hard to praise LaFleur too much for his contribution to Tennesee as an offensive coordinator. Then there is also the obvious tension between LaFleur and Rodgers, which, will not do any favours for the team chemistry.

Verdict & Prediction

Chicago bears enter their opening fixture of the season with Rashaad Coward, Trey Burton and Bilal Nichols all questionable to appear. On the other side, Packers do have some injuries concerns of their own, fortunately for them, no major absentees are expected, considering Jones and Graham are both expected to play. That being said, both Oren Burks and Darrius Shepherd have been ruled out, while Hollman remains questionable.

Chicago Bears are entering their first fixture of the season as favourites to defeat Green Bay Packers, and we can hardly argue with that. While we cannot underestimate Rodgers and his capability to make plays, the biggest concern lays in Packers’ defence. It’s worth noting Packers who usually come out on top when facing Bears, yet we do believe that will be the case here. Nagy has assembled a phenomenal team, which might not have as much talent as Packers, but surely perform much better and more organized than the Bays. With too many questions surrounding the new Packers’ side and their future in the 2019 season, we expect the home side to walk away victorious here.
