Chicago Bulls v Charlotte Hornets – NBA Betting Preview and Prediction

Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets are set to clash this Saturday, December 14, at United Center, where Bulls will look to add their second win in a row and end Hornet’s two-game winning streak in a bid to break into the top eight in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago Bulls’ injury concerns

Chicago Bulls will enter this matchup without Otto Porter and Chandler Hutchison. Wendell Carter Jr., Zach LaVine Kris Dunn, Ryan Arcidiacono and Denzel Valentine are all probable. As it stands now, Bulls are 9-17 on the year and 2-3 in their last five. In regards to their last five fixtures, Bulls defeated Memphis Grizzlies (106:99), lost to Golden State Warriors (100:98), Miami Heat (105:110)(OT) and Toronto Raptors (92:93) and won their most recent bout with Atlanta Hawks (136:102) on Thursday.

In their meeting with Atlanta Hawks, Bulls delivered as they completely demolished the visitors at United Center. The said match started off with a four-point lead for Bulls (37:33), who further extended their lead by an additional 10 points in Q2 (29:19), thus entered the second half 14 points up. But they did not stop there. Bulls went on to produce another superb display in Q3 (40:35), extending their lead to 19 points, which more or less sealed the deal. Despite holding onto an impressive lead, Bulls went on to add another 15 points in Q4 (30:15) to hand Atlanta hawks a humiliating 136:102 defeat.

The top scorer of the night was Zach LaVine with 35 points, two rebounds and four assists. Lauri Markkanen was their second-best scorer with 22 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Coby White scored 19 points, two rebounds and four assists.

Hornets looking to upset the high flying Bulls

Charlotte Hornets are entering their 28th match of the year with an 11-16 record next to their name and 3-2 in last five. In their last five, Hornets defeated Golden State Warriors (106:91), lost to both Brooklyn Nets (104:111) and Atlanta Hawks (107:122) but managed to bounce back with confidence, by securing two wins against Washington Wizards (114:107) and Brooklyn Nets (113:108) to avenge their defeat from a couple of days ago.

In regards to Hornets’ clash with Brooklyn Nets, it’s hard not to be impressed with what Hornets showed, that is at least in the latter stages of the game. The first quarter ended with Brooklyn securing an eight-point lead (34-26) to which they added another three points in Q2 (30-27). Despite leading by 11 points heading into the second half, Nets found themselves feeling Hornets’ resistance who put up a show in the third quarter (31:22) to reduce the gap to only two. Hornets managed to keep the momentum going into the last quarter, where they needed only a couple of minutes to get themselves into a lead and they never looked back. Brooklyn managed to equalize the match a couple of times, but in the end, fell short as they went down 108:113 in what was a huge upset win for Hornets.

The top scorer of the night was Devonte Graham with 40 points, to which he added five rebounds and five dimes. Spencer Dinwiddie was the second most efficient scorer with 24 points, to which he added five rebounds and six assists, while his teammate Jarrett Allen scored 21, added 10 rebounds and two assists.

Verdict & Prediction

Unlike Bulls, who have a long list of missing players, Hornets will miss only Marvin Williams, while they have Nicolas Batum listed as doubtful and Malik Monk as probable. Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets met on November 24, 2019, at Spectrum Center, where Hornets lost by a single point (115:116). Since then, Bulls have put up better results and their demolition of Atlanta Hawks only proves that they are in great shape. That being said, it’s their injuries that concern us. While they bested Hornets at their own stadium, winning here will be tougher, especially if Charlotte can reproduce what they have shown against Brooklyn on Thursday.

All in all, Hornets have solid players and great coaching staff, which will help them keep this one close. They played well the last time they met with Bulls and should arguably win the said bout. This will be a perfect chance to avenge that defeat or at least push the weakened Bulls to their limits.
