The defending champions are going into this season as a serious threat to other teams, as they are more than capable of repeating their accomplishment. During the summer, they did the opposite of what you could expect. There was little to no time to celebrate, as they put their energy into preparing for the upcoming season.
James stated ” I don’t really look back on it. I’ve always said once I’m done playing the game, I’ll have an opportunity to sit back. I’ve been working all summer. You know I don’t stop. So I haven’t had much time to just sit around and look at the accomplishments that we’ve made or we had and what we did. But I know it was an incredible ride, and I was happy to be a part of it”.
Last season Cavaliers know they have what is needed to compete for the title once again, so their roster changes were kept at minimum. The biggest changes worth mentioning are departure of Matthew Dellavedova and reinforcements in Mike Dounleavy and Chris Andersen. If the Cavaliers wish to repeat their success, much will depend on Kyrie Irving and James performance. Irving has proven he can lead the team in the Finals and for me he is a future MVP. But he mustn’t get too selfish as he needs to work with James.
Knicks have a disappointing season behind them with a 32-50 finish. They need to improve and they surely are working on it. Jeff Hornacek (former Pheonix Suns coach) was signed as a new coach for the Knicks, during the summer they added Derrick Rose into the team, in exchange for Robin Lopez and Jerian Grant. In addition, Knicks singed a free agent Joakim Noah, who used to play with Derrick Rose at the Bulls. When deciding on how far will Knicks go, it will come up to Caramelo Anthony. And looking at the previous season, it’s not promising. 21.8ppg was one of his worst performance in the NBA. But all hope is not lost, not at all. Kristaps Porzingis is one of the players that can be described as a huge prospect for the New York Knicks and he has been working hard during the summer to improve his performance for the upcoming season. Of course we mustn’t forget Derrick Rose. Despite having some problems with injuries he has not given up. He realises he cannot improve his athleticism by a lot, so improving his strategy is the best choice for him. Knicks are slowly but surely improving and have got a good roster, who has a lot to prove.
