FunPlus Phoenix vs Renegades
FunPlus Phoenix and Renegades both lost their opening fixtures of the tournament; FunPlus Phoenix against Complexity and Renegades against Heroic. In terms of showing, I am far more impressed with what Renegades have shown, however, I have to note that Renegades capitulated after dropping an extremely close map one, whereas FunPlus Phoenix gave up an impression of being very disorganized, although something like that was expected from a team that changed their IGL and haven’t played any proper matches for about a month prior.
FPX enter this match as heavy favorites, priced around 1.27 on Pinnacle, which overrates them a little. They didn’t show anything worthwhile against Complexity yesterday, whereas Renegades looked quite competitive on their own map pick against Heroic.
The value should be on Renegades here. They traveled to Europe with no real expectations and will likely spend this time as a bootcamp rather than chase any titles. That, however, should work in their favor as they are playing without any pressure.
There were no previous bouts between these two teams so we are walking into somewhat of a mystery. Overall FunPlus Phoenix should be the stronger team here, largely thanks to their aimers who can prove to be very difficult to stop when they heat up. I expect a somewhat puggy approach from both teams, which leads me to believe this match can go one way or the other very quickly.
Renegades were quite unlucky yesterday not to win at least one map against Heroic and perhaps playing against a weaker opponent such as FPX should earn them a better result. Bet on Renegades to make it interesting.

Complexity vs OG – ESL Pro League Season 13
Complexity are coming into the match on the heels of a 2-0 victory over FunPlus Phoenix. They headed into the match priced as favorites and did not give any real opportunity for FPX to get something out of the match. CL odds were above 1.70, which makes no sense to me (especially when they were against a team that is trying out a new IGL and hasn’t played an official match for quite some time), I had them priced closer to 1.50.
The last time these two teams met was just a couple of days ago at DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 Europe Closed Qualifier, where Complexity destroyed OG 2-0, 16-5 on Mirage and 16-3 on Dust2. Kristian ‘k0nfig’Wienecke has had an amazing performance that day with 43 frags and a 1.75 HLTV rating, and none of his teammates ended the game with an HLTV rating below the 1.00 line. On the side of OG, no players reached the 1.00 HLTV line, so a total capitulation on their side.
Regarding recent roster changes, I believe OG kicked the wrong player and I think this will hurt them in the long run – unless they get rid of Issa ‘ISSAA’ Murad. I have no idea what he is doing most of the time just as much as I can’t make sense of what the hell is going on in the OG camp.
Complexity are looking like the complete package and they should walk away with a W here. I am sure it won’t be as easy as it was a couple of days ago, but at these odds am I prepared to side with them. Don’t get tricked by OG’s victory over BIG, they are nothing special.

BIG vs Heroic – ESL Pro League Season 13
Heroic enter the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over Renegades, with 19-16 on Inferno and 16-5 on Train. The first map was quite close and the Aussies were quite unfortunate to not win that one, but on the second map Renegades pretty much capitulated and Heroic closed the series 2-0. Heroic entered that match as favorites priced around 1.17 at Pinnacle, which overrated them a little if we take into consideration that they just replaced two players!
The last time these two teams met was about a month ago at IEM Katowice, where Heroic surprised and upset BIG 2-0, 16-14 on Nuke and 16-12 on Inferno. Casper ‘cadiaN’ Møller was the best player on the server that day with 49 frags and a 1.36 HLTV rating, while Johannes ‘tabseN’ Wodarz was the only player on BIG with a positive rating by the end of the series. Heroic have changed two players since then, so don’t put too much weight on the said match.
BIG have looked very shaky in their game against OG and now they are facing Heroic, who are in my book a stronger team that is also – like OG – capable of punishing BIG for their mistakes. Heroic should not be priced anywhere near where they are, since the match looks like a complete 50/50.
It will all come down to what kind of BIG we will see – the dominant one or the shaky one that is losing maps against OG. Value bet on Heroic!
