Dallas Mavericks v New York Knicks – NBA Betting Preview and Prediction

Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks are set to clash this Saturday, November 9, at American Airlines Center in a thrilling cross-Conference fixture, where Knicks will hope they can bounce back from their run of four consecutive losses. Dallas Mavericks on the other side will look to win their third fixture in a row and claim their sixth W of the season.

Dallas flying high on the backs of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis

Dallas Mavericks will enter the Saturday’s fixture with a 5-2 record which puts them at the second place in the West, tied with Denver Nuggets and only one game behind LA Lakers. Looking back at Dallas’ last five fixtures, they have narrowly lost to Portland Trail Blazers (119:121), defeated Denver Nuggets (106:109), lost to LA Lakers in overtime (110:119) and won their last two fixtures against Cleveland Cavaliers (111:131) and most recently Orlando Magic (107:106).

In the match against Orlando Magic, there was little to separate the two sides up to the third quarter. First-quarter ended 25:28 in favour of the visitors and the second ended 29:28 in favour of Mavericks. In Q3, Mavericks woke up and outscored Orlando by nine points (32:23), which got them a seven-point lead before the last quarter began. Despite somewhat underwhelming show from Dallas in the last quarter (21:27), the home side managed to edge past Orlando by a minimal margin to secure their fifth W of the season. Final score: 107-106.

Top scorer of the night was RoTY Luka Doncic, who once again proved why he is seen by many as a future NBA legend. Doncic scored 27 points, to which he added seven rebounds and seven assists. Gordon scored 23 and added four rebounds and one assist, while Vucevic earned a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. It was a slow night for Porzingis, who scored 10 points, to which he added eight rebounds and one assist.

New York Knicks woes continue

New York Knicks are entering their game nine of the season with a dismissal 1-7 record and a streak of four consecutive defeats. Looking back at their last four, Knicks lost to Orlando Magic (95:83), Boston Celtics (104:102), Sacramento Kings (92:113) and most recently Detroit Pistons (122:102).

Taking a closer look at Knicks’ defeat against Detroit Pistons, the Knicks started off the fixture poorly, trailing by eight points (25:33) by the end of the first quarter. While they managed to reduce the gap slightly in Q2 (34:31), the Knicks failed to catch up to Pistons in Q3. Instead, they fell behind even further (26:32), meaning they entered Q4 trailing by 11 points. Despite their best efforts, things got even worse for Knicks who finished the match 20 points behind Pistons (122:102), who were a far superior team on that night.

Top scorer of the night was Drummond with 27 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. Snell was second with 24 points, a rebound and two assists, while Morris Mark. finished the match with 22 points, four rebounds and five assists. Randle was the top scorer for Knicks with 20 points to which he added three rebounds and two assists.

Verdict & Prediction

Knicks are entering this fixture as heavy underdogs and it’s easy to see why. Not only are they going through a terrible form, but are also without Elfrid Payton and Mitchell Robinson due to concussion. Dennis Smith Jr. remains questionable for Knicks.

We believe Robinson’s absence will play a crucial role in this fixture. Without him Knicks don’t have anyone to stop Porzingis and Doncic inside. It’s worth noting Porzingis has not yet played at his best, but we can trust him to put up a show against his former team. Doncic on the other side is in phenomenal form, and it would be fair his performance won’t fall off against the struggling Knicks.

And it’s not only Knicks’ defence we are worried about but their offensive strength as well. They simply haven’t shown enough to make us believe they can threaten Dallas and their solid defence, which should be more than capable of shutting down Knicks’ 3pt attempts. All things considered, Mavericks should have this one in the bag with relative ease. We expect them to finish the game with double digits to spare.
