The 70th season of NASCAR starts today at Daytona International Speedway. The recent Advance Auto Parts Clash and the Can-Am Duel served as the qualifying races for the 60th running of the Daytona 500. If you are new to the NASCAR betting, you might want to check out our NASCAR betting tutorial.
The current favourite to win the race is Brad Keselowski, priced around 10.00 at several bookmakers. He won the unofficial opening race of the season, the Advance Auto Parts Clash, followed by his fellow Ford drivers Joey Logano, Kurt Buch and Ryan Blaney. It is worth mentioning that there was a big crash in the final lap, as Kyle Larson bumped Jimmie Johnson, resulting in a crash eliminating Larson, Johnson, Kahne, Chase Elliott, Kyle Buch and last year’s Cup winner, Martin Truex Jr. Even if the crash didn’t happen, it is highly unlikely that anyone would be able to beat Keselowski, as he was quite far ahead of the crashed cars. Anyway, he won three races last season, along with the 12 top 5 finishes. This will be his seventh race in a Ford car at the Daytona 500(one race in Chevrolet and three races in Dodge), and it is worth mentioning that his best placing came in 2014, when he finished third. Last season he started the race on the 7 position and finished on the 27th place. This year he will be starting at the 19th position.
2017: Kurt Busch
2016: Denny Hamlin
2015: Joey Logano
2014: Dale Earnhardt Jr.
2013: Jimmie Johnson
If we take a look at the last year’s winner, Kurt Busch, we can see that he is priced around 29.00 for an outright win. Kurt started the 2017 season with a crash in the Clash, but one week later he managed to win the Daytona 500. He struggled through the rest of the season, eventually finishing 14th in the standings. His younger brother, Kyle Buch, one of our picks for this race, is currently priced around 12.00 for an outright win. Although he started the previous season on a slow note with a crash at the Daytona 500, he still managed to win five races along with nine other top 5 finishes. His best result for this race came in 2016 when he finished third.
Martin Truex Jr., who won the last year s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup, is currently priced around 13.00 for an outright win. Truex was quite dominant last season, winning five races along with a 19 top 5 finishes. He finished 14th at the Daytona 500 last year, but he managed a second place in 2016. He will be starting the race at the 24th position.
Ryan Blaney is the new driver for Team Penske, coming over Wood Brothers Racing. He has quite a successful season behind him, as he finished 9th in the overall ranking. Altrought he won only once, he managed four top fives, 14 top tens, four stage wins, and two poles. He finished second last season at Daytona 500. He will be starting the race at the 3rd position.
The 24 years old Alex Bowman, who replaced Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 car, won the pole this year. Bowman is priced around 29.00, one of the reasons for such a high price is definitely the fact that the pole winner hasn’t won the Daytona since Dale Jarrett won in 2000. Anyway, Bowman finished 24rd in 2014, but failed to qualify in 2015.
