DC United vs Inter Miami
When: Saturday, June 19 – 20:00 EDT
Where: Audi Field in Washington, D.C., USA
Weather: Intermittent Clouds, 27°C
Referee: Fotis Bazakos (USA)
DC United will host Inter Miami at Audi Field in their ninth game of the season. The hosts should feel confident about their chances tonight, as they have yet to lose against Phil Neville’s side across their two meetings.
However, it’s DC United’s home record that should concern them, having lost back-to-back games on home soil, and it doesn’t help that inter Miami are 2-1-1 on the road on the season. Will that be enough for Inter Miami to secure their first head-to-head victory against DC United?
DC United Not as Bad As It Seems
DC United struggled after the departure of Wayne Rooney and finished last term in 13th place with a 5-6-12 record. Things seemed not to have improved this term, seeing how have DC United managed only three wins in eight outings (3-0-5).
Their efforts have earned them nine points, which is good for 10th place in the standings, one spot ahead of their next opponents, Inter Miami who put together eight points. Still, DC United were competitive even in their losses.
In their last five, DC United dropped the ball against Columbus Crew (1-3), Orlando City (0-1), and Philadelphia Union (0-1). Not very good results on paper, but they had to face some very formidable opponents, so we should give DC United some slack.
Inter Miami Strong Away Record
Inter Miami enter this bout with a 2-2-4 record on the season and 1-1-3 in their last five outings. That run includes a draw against Atlanta Utd (1-1), a win against FC Cincinnati (3-2), and three losses against Club de Foot Montreal (0-2), Chicago Fire (0-1), and DC United (0-3).
Having already faced DC United, Inter Miami should know what to expect, and it doesn’t look too promising. Their last outing happened at the end of May when DC United crushed Inter 3-0 at home with goals via Paul Arriola and Ola Kamara (twice).
Although Inter had their chances, they were not nearly as efficient as DC United, who converted all three of their shots on goal. While a painful loss, Inter have proven to be a more efficient team on the road.
They’re 2-1-1 in away games on the season, which ranks them as the third-best travellers in the Eastern Conference. During that stretch, Inter won against FC Cincinnati (3-2) and Philadelphia Union (2-1), drew with Nashville SC, and lost their last away bout with Chicago Fire (0-1).
As good as that record may seem, Inter haven’t beaten any notable home sides. FC Cincinnati are 0-2 at home, Chicago Fire are 1-1-3, while Philadelphia Fusion had a slow start, failing to win a single home game until mid-May.
DC United vs Inter Miami
As good as Inter Miami’s away record is, it’s hard to look past their humiliating loss (0-3) against DC United last time out. The visitors were the better team, and there’s nothing that would suggest they’ll look any worse this time out.
Inter Miami had their chances last month, but they weren’t very impressive with their attempts. DC United seem value at the current odds, and we will gladly take their side to go 4-0 up in the head-to-head with Neville’s side.
