Eibar v Villarreal – LaLiga Betting Preview and Prediction
Villarreal will continue their quest to reach the top six in LaLiga on Thursday, October 31 with a clash with Eibar, who have found themselves in a slump and are now hanging just above the relegation zone. The fixture will take place at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua, in front of Eibar’s home fans, who will demand Jose Luis Mendilibar and his men to bounce back from the 0:3 thrashing they received from Barcelona in round nine.
Eibar eyeing their third win of the season
Eibar are entering round 11 of LaLiga with a 2-3-5 record and nine points next to their name, which puts them firmly in the bottom part of the league, where they are currently tied with Celta Vigo who are 18th in the league and barely four points above Leganes, who reside at the bottom of the barrel.
It would be safe to say Eibar failed to impress so far into their 2019/20 campaign, seeing how they have won only two out of their 10 fixtures so far. On a more positive note, Eibar’s only two wins came in their last five fixtures, when they defeated Sevilla (3:2) and Celta Vigo (2:0). That said, their two-game winning streak was succeeded by a draw against Betis (1:1), loss to Barcelona (0:3) and most recently a loss against Valladolid (2:0). With regards to Eibar’s most recent game, Los Armeros had more ball possession (64%) and even produced more goal attempts (13-8), however, their strikers failed to do their job as they produced only three shots on goal, none of which found its target. That said, their strikers’ failure to produce something should not come off as a surprise, seeing how they failed to make anything happen thus far.
Ten games deep into the season, Eibar scored 10 goals, which is worrying and with all due respect, we don’t see their goalscoring problem resolving itself anytime soon. One of the biggest issue with this squad is that they lack any young talented players in the attack. And even that is an understatement, seeing how their youngest striker is 29 years old. Furthermore, the two strikers who played the most matches so far are 33 and 35 years old (Orellana and Charles).
Eibar will enter their bout with Villarreal without Ramis, Rober Correa and Sergio Alvarez.
Optimism in Villarreal’s camp
We are barely 11 rounds into LaLiga, meaning the results so far should not be overvalued, however, we can’t go past the fact Villarreal are looking as an improved version of themselves compared to how they looked last season. As it stands now, Villarreal are sitting at seventh place with 5-2-3 record and 17 points and have one match in hand to Real Sociedad, who are sixth with 19 points. With that in mind, Villarreal are on the verge of making it into the top six and looking at their next opponents, Villarreal will surely fancy their chances of breaking into the top part of the standings.
Looking at Villarreal’s last five fixtures, they lost to Barcelona (2:1) after suffering two early goals in sixth and 15th minute. Villarreal bounced back from that loss with a dominant 5:1 win over Betis, followed by a painful 2:1 defeat against Osasuna which was succeeded by two consecutive triumphs against Espanyol (0:1) and most recently Alaves (4:1), meaning Villarreal are entering round 11 with two consecutive wins under their belt. Solely looking at the mentioned results, it’s easy to see Villarreal have got a very deadly attacking lineup which scored 12 goals in last five alone, continuing the trend Villarreal has set of scoring 2.4 goals/match, as they proudly display 24 goals scored 10 fixtures deep into the season. At this point it’s also worth noting Villarreal scored the second-most goals in the league, only trailing Barcelona who scored 28 goals.
The only notable missing player in Villarreal will be Alberto Moreno.
Verdict & Prediction
The clash between Eibar and Villarreal is expected to be a close one, partly due to the fact this fixture will be played at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua. The only two wins Eibar mustered up this season came at their home stadium, and they will look to make it three this week.
And while the optimism is surely there, we have our doubts Eibar have enough gas in their tank to make that happen here. Eibar have not won a match in their last three and we have already addressed the issue behind it. It’s the lack of any significant firepower.
Their strikers failed to score a single goal in both of their last two fixtures and we don’t see that changing here. Furthermore, we have another concern, which is directly tied to EIbar’s defense. Eibar conceded five goals in their last two and they are facing the second deadliest team when it comes to scoring goals.
All things considered, Villarreal should be the stronger side here and while it’s never easy to play at Estádio Municipal de Ipurua, the Yellow Submarine have shown enough to make us believe they can make something happen.
