Betting-Previews.com returns with another set of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive betting picks and predictions for the second day of play at ESL Pro League Season 14. Here are our betting picks for three games, slated for Tuesday, August 17.
Team Vitality vs Bad News Bears – ESL Pro League S14
Tuesday, August 17 – 13:30 CEST
I didn’t expect a lot from Bad News Bears, but I also wasn’t expecting them to be this bad. They got destroyed by Heroic in their ESL Pro League Season 14 opening match yesterday, where they proved that they have no real firepower, and I saw no meaningful tactical decisions from them either.
But then again, what exactly can you show to the world if you win only five rounds across the two maps! Bad News Bears have stated multiple times that they are in Europe to attract potential organizations to sign them, but from what they showed yesterday, there surely can’t be many suitors, if any.
Following yesterday’s results (Vitality won 2-0 against ENCE, BNB lost 0-2 against Heroic), the betting odds moved heavily in favor of Vitality which is not surprising. Before yesterday’s matches, Bad News Bears were priced at 6.50 to win against Vitality, 2.50 to take a map, while the over 2.50 maps was around 2.75.
Now, Bad News Bears are priced at 12.00 to win the match, and the odds for them taking a map and over 2.50 maps are around 4.33. Vitality are priced at 1.015 to win, which just shows how little trust the market has in the Bad News Bears. You could argue that there is some value in taking the +1.50 Maps at 4.33 at Bet365 (compared to 3.86 at Pinnacle), but I really doubt they will be able to take anything from this match.
I don’t believe this Bad News Bears roster has any future in CS:GO, and if you ask me, they will likely transition to Valorant! Because for some reason, they will surely be able to find an org there. Anything less than a 2-0 sweep for Vitality would be quite an upset!
Not a lot of value if you are looking to back Vitality here, but if yesterday’s results are any indication, Under 50.5 Rounds looks like the best bet to take. There is some value over at Unibet with Team Vitality -5.50 Rounds on both maps, currently priced at 1.66 (1.613 at Pinnacle). The same goes for under on Map 1 and Map 2; compare the odds yourself!
Expected Result: Vitality 2-0 Bad News Bears
Prediction: Under 50.5 Total Rounds – 1.83 at Bet365 – 0.50 Units
Astralis vs ENCE – ESL Pro League S14
Tuesday, August 17 – 16:45 CEST
Astralis enter this match on the back of a 2-1 victory against Spirit; they lost the opening map, 11-16 on Dust2, stomped Spirit 16-6 on Inferno, and closed out the series with a commanding 16-7 win on Ancient.
Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif and Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen were the best performers for Astralis on the day, with 1.20 and 1.15 HLTV ratings respectively. Their newest addition, Philip ‘Lucky’ Ewald, had an okay game, with 40 frags and a 1.03 HLTV rating.
Although ENCE lost to Team Vitality (0-2) with 14-16 on Mirage and 8-16 on Overpass, they played well, and if ENCE had a little more luck on their side on the first map, they would have had a legitimate chance to come away with a win. Paweł ‘dycha’ Dycha was their standout player with 37 frags and a 1.13 HLTV rating.
We sided with Astralis yesterday because the odds of 2.0 at Bet365 made no sense at that time. Before the match, the odds were down to around 1.70 at Bet365. While the market heavily favors Astralis to come away with a W against ENCE, this one looks tricky to predict.
Even though ENCE’s recent results aren’t exactly encouraging, they did manage to win against NIP and mousesports and took a map off FURIA a couple of months ago, so they definitely have some talent. Will they be able to channel that potential against Astralis remains to be seen, but considering this match comes straight after the player break, while Astralis are playing their first tournament with their new player, ENCE should be at least good for a map. I would also not be surprised if they manage to come away with a win.
There is some value if you want to side with ENCE (2.62 at Bet365), but for me, the best value has to be with over 2.50 maps.
Expected Result: Astralis 2-1 ENCE
Prediction: Over 2.50 Maps – 2.14 at Pinnacle – 0.50 Units
Heroic vs Team Spirit – ESL Pro League S14
Tuesday, August 17 – 16:45 CEST
There is not a lot to say about Heroic’s match against Bad News Bears yesterday. They were the better team all-around, and allowing their opponent to win only five rounds across both maps has probably left them feeling good.
Apparently, Team Spirit players didn’t take any time off during the player break and were playing FPL almost every day, so there should be no issues with rust. They had their chances to win against Astralis yesterday; they won the first map, and while the second match on Inferno was a complete blowout, the final map was quite competitive before Spirit dropped the ball on T side.
The odds moved in favor of Heroic following yesterday’s matches, but it is important that we don’t overreact to the most recent results, especially when you talk about the top teams. Heroic were around 1.70 at Pinnacle to win against Team Spirit yesterday, and following their stomp of BNB, the odds have shorted to 1.63 at Pinnacle and 1.57 at Bet365. Team Spirit were 2.19 at Pinnacle and are now at 2.31 at Pinnacle and 2.25 at Bet365.
I am not entirely sold on this Heroic roster, and while they can stomp the likes of BNB, they should have way more issues against the likes of Spirit, who have enough firepower to blow anyone out of the server.
Expected Result: Spirit 2-1 Heroic
Prediction: Over 2.50 Maps – 2.06 at Pinnacle – 0.50 Units
Prediction: Spirit to win – 2.31 at Pinnacle – 0.50 Units
