Faroe Islands v Sweden – EURO 2022 Qualifications Betting Preview and Prediction
The Faroe Islands and Sweden are set to clash in round five of Euro 2020 qualifications for the first time in six years. The fixture will take place at Tórsvøllur stadium, on the Faroe Islands.
Sweden eyeing Euro 2020 promotion
To be fair, group F will be won by Spain, which considering the quality of the teams competing in the group should not come off as a surprise. Having won all four fixtures up to this point, with 11 goals scored and only two conceded, Spain are more or less guaranteed a no.1 finish. That being said, the second spot in Group F is still wide open and should be won by either Sweden or Romania, who as of now share seven points and a 2-1-1 record. So far into the qualifications, the two sides looked fairly equally matched and we cannot exclude the possibility for the final spot leading into Euro 2020 to be decided based on GD. With that in mind, Sweden cannot let their guard down in any of the upcoming fixtures, which especially holds true for their visit to the Faroe Islands. Anything less than a win here will be a disastrous result and keeping in mind what we have said above, a win with minimal margin won’t do either. Janne Andersson and his crew will enter their round five fixture following a painful 3:0 defeat against Spain, who simply outclassed the Sweden outfit. Before that, however, Sweden dismantled Malta 3:0 and earned a questionable 3:3 draw against Norway. All things considered, Sweden have proven they have got the needed quality to finish second, nonetheless, they should be on their toes and avoid dropping the ball in the upcoming fixture, as any point, and any goal could push them below Romania.
Faroe Islands lack quality
The Faroe Islands struggled to perform up to par in the opening four fixtures of Euro 2020 qualifications. A close 2:1 defeat against Malta to kick off their journey was followed by 4:1 defeat against Romania, 1:4 against Spain and 0:2 against Norway. By this point, it should be clear Faroe Islands will not be attending the Euro 2020, yet they are a team who will not give up easily. That being said, we cannot expect too much from the small Island, who clearly lack the quality to compete at the same level as their opponents. At home, Faroe Islands won three games in the last 10, yet it was against Malta, Lichtenstein and Andorra. Furthermore, their last home win came almost a year ago. All things considered, it’s hard to see the Faroe Islands producing anything noteworthy against Sweden, who will arrive at Tórsvøllur hungry for points.
Verdict & Prediction
Sweden are in a very solid spot to earn a ticket to Euro 2020, considering they already defeated their biggest rivals Romania (2-1). The visitors will come into the next fixture without Viktor Claesson and Ludwin Augustinsson who are both injured, which should not be too big of an issue for Sweden who has enough players to replace the absences. All three, Forsberg, Berg and Quaison are in great form heading into the round five-fixture, leaving us to believe Sweden will be very strong in attack, that should cause a lot of problem to the Faroe Islands and their poor defense. With 12 goals conceded up to date, four of which came at the hands of Romania, we can hardly imagine the Faroe Islands having the strength to fend off Sweden’s firepower. Sweden will look for a win here, and while a simple 0:1 win would do the job, we can’t imagine Sweden settling for a minimal margin here, as they need to find a way to increase the gap between themselves and Romania.
