Fiorentina v AS Roma – Serie A

Roma will face against the hardest opponent this season, whereas Fiorentina will want to continue their strong home record with a win against 3rd placed team in Serie A last season.
Fiorentina, despite being a decently strong team always just fails short of any great accomplishments. Last season, the “violas” had a spot in the 1st position in Serie A for some time, but failed to keep that position. Thus ending the season on 5th position, 27 points behind 1st placed Juventus and 16 points behind today’s opponents, Roma.
This season Fiorentina had to play Juventus in the 1st round of Serie A, where they lost, as it was expected. Well I am not trying to be rude, but they just did not do anything spectacular to deserve a win. Next round was more forgiving for Fiorentina, as they had an easier opponent and got their first 3 points against Chievo (1:0). The results shown by Fiorentina are just not convincing for me, especially when they only manage to score 1 goals against Chievo at home, where Fiorentina should be strong.
Another thing I don’t like about FIorentina is their transfer policy. They sold 2 of their players, but bought no one worth mentioning. Davide Astori being the biggest purchase at 3.5€ million.
Roma has had a much better start of the season, with a win over Udinese (4:0). Following that win, Roma also managed to draw against Cagliari (2:2) and win over Sampdoria (3:2). I might also mention Roma’s draw against Plzen (1:1), where the “Wolves” should have won. Against Fiorentina, Roma boasts a strong record, winning both of the last 2 matches played against Fiorentina.
VERDICT
Both teams have not shown their full potential and need some improvement if they wish to compete for top spots. Still, in my eyes Roma is a stronger opponent here and should get their 3points as they did in the past at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
