After a disappointing 11th place at the previous Major in London 2018, G2 Esports replaced SmithZz and Ex6TenZ with Lucky and JaCkz from 3DMAX, maLeK joined as a full-time coach and shox took the role of an in-game leader. They had some great results at the end of 2018, most notably the second place at PLG Grand Slam 2018 and first place at WESG 2018 Qaulifers, but apart from that, they didn’t look like a team that can make playoffs at the upcoming Minor. Sure, they have kennS and Shox, but if they won’t step up their game big time, it will be hard for them to advance to the next stage.
Vega Squadron didn’t have to go to the CIS Minor, as they managed to secure a Legends spot at the previous Major in London. The last serious achievement of Vega Squadron was the second taken place at StarLadder i-League Season 6, that ended in the middle of October 2018. Apart from that, they were trying at some of the lower tier tournaments but did not manage to finish at any notable spots worth mentioning. Vega Squadron are currently priced around 230 at the Pinnacle to win the Major and are rightfully one of the underdogs in his tournament, I dont expect them to get out of the New Challengers stage.
These two teams have played each other only once, when G2 managed to win in the 19:16 in the overtime at the ELEAGUE Major 2018 Main Qualifier for the Boston Major. It is worth mentioning that both teams have made numerous roster changes and that there are no additional VODs to analyses any official matches between these two teams. Sure, G2 are looking like the better team in this match-up, but if take into consideration that this is BO1 type of match and the first round of the Main Qualifier, the match feels like a 50/50, so value lies on Vega Squadron.
Prediction: Vega Squadron to win
Odds: 2.57 Pinnacle
