Halmstad will play host to Djurgardens on Monday, July 12 at Örjans Vall in their first meeting since 2017. Halmstad las won this matchup way back in 2014 when they outclassed Djurgardens 2-1 at home – a feat they will look to recreate this evening.
Halmstad vs Djurgardens
When: Monday, July 12 – 19:00 CEST
Where: Örjans Vall in Halmstad, Sweden
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 24°C
Referee: Andreas Ekberg (SWE)
Djurgardens are second in the league, having lost only one match in nine outings and will now look to add their seventh victory against the struggling Halmstad. Although they’re in for a challenging task as beating Halmstad at Örjans Vall isn’t an easy job, Djurgardens have been one of the most efficient teams on the road on the 2021 season.
Halmstad will count on home advantage to earn them much needed points this evening, as they look to grab at least one point and keep their unbeaten record alive. However, the hosts have yet to be properly tested at Örjans Vall.
Halmstad Run It Back From Last Year
Halmstad earned their spot in the Allsvenskan after winning the Superettan with a 21-5-4 record and 68 points. Although an impressive feat, it’s hard to be overly confident about Magnus Haglund’s men for this term.
The big problem we have with Halmstad is their lack of investment in new players. Although their current roster was good enough to shine in the second-tier Swedish football, it won’t earn them any significant results in the Allsvenskan.
Halmstad enter this match with a 2-4-3 record and 10 points, which is good for 11th place in the league standings. During that stretch, the hosts managed eight goals and conceded nine, which earns them a negative goal difference.
At home, Halmstad are 1-3-0, which isn’t exactly terrible, but it’s not that good either considering the quality of the opponents they had to face. During that stretch, Halmstad won against Hacken (1-0) and added three draws against Goteborg (1-1), Mjallby (1-1) and Degerfors (0-0).
Djurgardens On The Rise
Djurgardens enter this match with a 6-2-1 record on the season and 20 points, which sits them in second place on the ladder. They’re three points short of Malmo FF, albeit they still have two more games in hand.
Although an impressive record on its own, Djurgardens also boast an incredible 16-6 goal difference. While they haven’t been as impressive in the final third as Malmo FF (24 goals) or Hammarby (20 goals), Djurgardens have done an exceptional job in the back.
However, it’s not like Djurgardens lack power in the final third. The visitors have four players with at least two goals to their name, including Barkroth Niklas (3) and defender Witry Aslak Fonn, who has managed four goals in nine games.
Djurgardens are unbeaten in their last four, with two draws against Goteborg (0-0) and Hammarby (2-2) and two wins against Ostersunds (2-0) and Orebro (3-0). In away games, Djurgardens are 2-1-1 with seven points – just over half of what they have earned at home (4-1-0, 13 points).
Halmstad vs Djurgardens Betting Picks
Djurgardens are 2019 champions and 2020 fourth-placed team. They are now facing a newly promoted Halmstad, who have failed to strengthen their squad before returning to the Allsvenskan.
That alone should prove how big of a quality gap there is between the two teams as they get ready for their clash this evening. Even though Halmstad are undefeated at home on the season, that doesn’t prove anything since they have yet to face a proper opponent.
Prediction: Djurgardens -0.50 Asian Handicap – 2.06 at Sportmarket
