Betting-Previews.com brings you a League of Legends betting preview and prediction for a match between Dignitas and Immortals, who will clash in the lower bracket of the 2021 LoL Championship Series (LCS) Championship.
2021 LCS Championship – Immortals vs Dignitas
When: Saturday, August 12 at 15:00 PDT
Game: Best-of Five (Bo5)
After getting obliterated by Evil Geniuses, Dignitas dropped down to the lower bracket of the 2021 LCS Championship, where they’ll lock horns with Immortals. It will mark their fifth meeting of the season, three of which ended in favour of Dignitas, but can they make it 4-2?
Fairly Evenly Matched (But Not Really)
If we take a look at the results Dignitas and Immortals have produced over the season, there isn’t a lot to set them apart. They (may) seem fairly evenly matched in most areas; however, even the eye-test would prove that Dignitas are a much stronger early game team, which could be the difference-maker tonight.
I have discussed Dignitas in the preview for their clash with Evil Geniuses and noted that Dignitas aren’t very strong. I still stand by that statement since I don’t believe Dignitas are even close to being good enough to produce a deep run in the 2021 LCS Championship; however, they are still better than Immortals.
Team/GD | GD@10 | GD@15 | GD@20 |
---|---|---|---|
Immortals | -632 | -1185 | -1876 |
Dignitas | +38 | -43 | -1 |
As seen above, Dingitas’ Gold Difference (GD) isn’t exactly good. In fact, they rank fifth, seventh, and seventh in GD@10, GD@15, and GD@20, respectively. Regardless, Immortals’ numbers are significantly weaker in all three stages of the game and rank ninth in league with their GD at all three points of the game.
I generally don’t overreact to GD numbers since there is more to games than just playing well in the early game; however, when the gap is as large as in this match-up, it’s very hard not to favour one team over the other.
A strong early game leads to victories in the current meta, especially when a team knows how to put their early advantages to good use. Are Dignitas the type of team that can do that? Well, not necessarily – however, you have to favour a team that at least entered the mid-game of most of their games at level terms over a team that is always playing from behind.
Immortals Need To Step Up
I was bullish on Immortals over the season since they have the talent to be a good team. That said, they just couldn’t clean up their (early) game, and if they don’t improve in that department ahead of tonight’s affair, they will be in for a world of pain.
Dignitas are not good, but they also aren’t as bad as they may seem. Dignitas have suffered a handful of humiliating losses over the season, albeit it was against much stronger teams.
Another thing about those losses is that it’s very easy to remember games where an X team got blown up by their opponents. And that can quickly change your perception of the team, even though they might have played well in their other games.
Immortals have been the better team if we compare their showings over the entire summer season to Dignitas. However, IMT haven’t impressed me with their performances in recent weeks. If we compare these teams’ performance metrics over the last nine outings, we get:
Team/Stat | EGR | MLR | GPR | GSPD |
---|---|---|---|---|
Immortals | 35.9 | 19.7 | -1.43 | -5.3% |
Dignitas | 54.1 | 1.5 | 0.12 | 1.2% |
As seen, Immortals tend to have a stronger mid-late game but fall flat in all other metrics. Not only are they weaker in the early game, but Immortals also hold some of the lowest Gold Percentage Rating (GPR) and Gold Spent Percentage Difference (GSPD), where they rank ninth and eighth in the league respectively.
Besides their MLR, Immortals hold worse numbers than any of the playoffs teams.
Dignitas Are Just Better
As solid as Immortals have been over the season, I have a very hard time justifying a bet on them. In fact, I would even argue that they shouldn’t be priced as favourites for this match.
One thing that could benefit them is that immortals got a chance to see Dignitas play against Evil Geniuses, which potentially gave them some information on how to approach this fixture. But that doesn’t change the fact that Dignitas have been playing better in recent weeks.
There’s not much more to this match – Dignitas are underappreciated and overpriced.
