Inter Miami will host New England Revolution at DRV PNK Stadium on Wednesday, July 21, where the hosts will look to secure their first home victory of the season. However, with the form Inter Miami have been showing on the season, it’s hard to be overly optimistic about their chances to upset the surging Revolution.
Inter Miami vs New England Revolution
When: Wednesday, July 21 – 19:30 EDT
Where: DRV PNK Stadium in Miami, Florida
Weather: Mostly cloudy, 28°C
Referee: Robert Sibiga (USA)
David Beckham’s boys have been terrible so far in the 2021 MLS season. They’re currently at the very bottom of the table, with just eight points after 11 rounds.
The good news for Inter Miami is that they’ve played two games fewer than the two teams above them in the standings. What this means is that with a couple of good results, they could get a few places higher.
The bad news for the young MLS franchise is that their schedule is pretty tough. Their next game is against New England Revolution, which is the team topping the Eastern Conference table.
Inter Miami’s Superstars Need to Step Up
The team owned by David Beckham has some big names on the roster, including two former Juventus players Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi. Even though the two have been regulars in the 2021 season, they haven’t done much to help Inter Miami secure the much-needed points.
Inter Miami did start the season reasonably well, grabbing eight points in the first six rounds. However, they then lost the following five matches. Their most recent game saw them losing to Club de Foot Montreal 1-0 in an away game.
Inter Miami’s most recent home game was a clash with their state rivals, Orlando City. The final score in that game was 2-1 for the away team. The worst thing is that the goal scored against Orlando City is Inter Miami’s only goal in the past five matches.
The offense seems like Inter Miami’s Achilles Heel, but they’re also going to have problems at the back in tonight’s game. The thing is that one of their key defenders, Joevin Jones, is reportedly struggling with an injury. The same goes for wing-back Sami Guediri, as well as defensive midfielder Gregore.
New England Revolution Now the #3 MLS Cup Favorite
New England Revolution have been phenomenal since the start of the season, winning eight of 14 games played so far. They did slip a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, losing twice and drawing once in the past four rounds. However, in their most recent game, they beat Atlanta United in an away game.
Thanks to their impressive run, the New England Revolution are now at the top of the conference, which is where they’re favored to stay.
They’re also one of the top favorites to win the MLS Cup, with the betting odds somewhere in the ballpark of 10.00. Only two teams are given better chances by the bookmakers, namely, Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles FC.
Inter Miami vs New England Revolution Betting Picks
Coached by Bruce Arena, New England Revolution look like the strongest team in the conference, and they have numbers to back that up. Even though they dropped points against Columbus Crew (2-2) and FC Dallas (1-2) in their most recent away outings, the Revolution played well.
You could even argue that the Revolution deserved to defeat the Crew, and they should secure at least a point against FC Dallas last month. With those two results, the Revolution are 3-1-1 in their last five road games, which is still a solid record considering they’re facing a squad that have yet to win a home match this term.
The New England Revolution have been showing great form, and they’ll want to keep their wheels spinning by securing their ninth victory of the season. Inter Miami will surely want to spoil their plans, but they simply haven’t shown enough for us to believe they’ll manage to do so.
Prediction: New England Revolution to win – 2.41 Pinnacle
