Japan v Scotland – Rugby World Cup 2019 Betting Preview and Prediction
Japan and Scotland will clash on Sunday, October 13 in what will be the final pool stage fixture of this World Cup. The match will take place at Nissan Stadium, Yokohama and it will mark the fourth h2h fixture between the two teams and the first time they met at the 2019 World Cup.
Scotland’s one last hoorah
If everything goes as planned for Scotland and Ireland by some chance loses to Samoa on Saturday, Scotland’s fixture with Japan will be their one last shot to claim a spot in the quarter-finals. And should Samoa defeat Ireland, Scotland will surely fancy their chances against the hosts. Scotland have arrived to 2019 Rugby World Cup as seven-time quarter-finalists, yet it seems like they will miss out on that feat this year. Scotland started off their World Cup journey with a 3:27 defeat against Ireland, followed by a 34:0 trashing of Samoa and most recently a 61:0 win over Russia. However, it was the defeat against Ireland that will possibly cost them the prestigious ticket leading into the quarter-finals. That being said, the result of Ireland v Samoa is not yet known and seeing how anything can happen, we can trust the Scots to be ready to leave a mark against Japan. The confidence will surely be there, after the trashing of both Samoa and Russia, and while the Japanese will prove to be a much tougher opponent, we can trust the Scots to come out all guns blazing.
Japanese on the verge of securing the first seed in group A
The home side have impressed with what they have shown this World Cup, seeing how they not only defeated Russia (30:10) and Samoa (38:19), but also managed to produce one of the biggest upset wins in history when they derailed Ireland (19:12). Their incredible performances earned them the top two finish and if they can hold on against Scotland, Japan will secure the number one seed. That is, of course, IF Japan can win here, which considering the fact they have lost all six previous encounters with the Scots puts them in an unenviable position, where they must ultimately produce another upset win. That being said, Japan have proven in the last month they are far better to what many of us expected. Before the World Cup started, the hosts were sitting at 18th place in World rankings and have now climbed into top 10, which on its own paints a clear picture of how good Japan really is. And with that in mind, we must give them a tad more credit and put a bit more trust in them as they lock horns with Scotland’s rugby team.
Verdict & Prediction
Japan have put up respectable record against some of T1 teams, which is why we believe it’s only fair to say Japan will do just ok against Scotland. Furthermore, Japan will enter this fixture on fire, with only one defeat in their last eight games, whereas it will be the Scots who will arrive here with questionable morale. Ireland most likely won’t lose to Samoa, meaning this fixture will be nothing more than one last hoorah for Scotland before they pack their bags and head back home. Japan on the other side desperately need to win here, if they are serious about securing the number one seed in group A. All things considered this one should be a close contest, but when push comes to shove, we have to side with the home side, who have impressed so far and we don’t see a reason why they can’t defeat Scotland this weekend.
Prediction: Japan to win
