Jelena Ospatenko v Timea Bacsinszky – WTA French Open
Today we will see Jelena Ostapenko playing against Timea Bacsinszky in WTA Franch Open semi-finals. Despite some troubles with the weather, the first pairs of women’s quarter-finals eventually managed to finish the match and with that, we have now got our first 2 semi-finalists, previously mentioned Ostapenko and Bacsinszky.
Bacsinszky has been playing well in Roland Garros and the fact that this will be her 2nd appearance in the semi-finals only proves my point, that this venue suits her. On Tuesday, Bacsinszky managed to win over a tough opponent, Kristina Mladenovic. (6-4 6-4). The weather was far from ideal, but both players managed to play through it, although Bacsinszky seemed to be dealing with weather conditions a bit better. Looking at this year, Bacsinszky had quite some problems. From abdominal injury, wrist injury, problems with thighs… But luckily she has no problems as of now.
Jelena Ospatenko got her ticket to the semi-finals by beating Caroline Wozniacki (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). With that win, Ostapenko is now 4-0 in H2H matches against Wozniacki. Despite her great performance, she should not underestimate Bacsinszky, as she is arguably much better than Wozniacki. One of the key factors I see Bacsinszky as a favourite is her aggression and ability to change the pace easily, which will spell trouble for Ostapenko. Not only that, but Bacsinszky has much more experience on Philippe-Chatrier court, as she played her last match as well as a few matches prior to it, whereas Ostapenko has not yet played on this court. Taking it all into consideration, Bacsinszky comes out as a clear favourite in my eyes.
Prediction: Bacsinszky to win
Odds: 1.69 Pinnacle
