Today we will see Lazio facing against last years champions, Juventus at Stadio Olimpico.
Juventus has had a really bad start of the season last year, but when “The Old Lady” found it’s rhythm, they were nearly unstoppable, which gave them another Serie A title. This year they are much stronger, with new signings, which is a good and a bad thing. The bad side of new players is that they need to learn to play with each other and need to adapt the Juventus play style. However, they did perform well against Fiorentina in 1st round of Serie A, which gave them first 3 points of the season. We might expect a slower start for Juventus in the opening games, but in my eyes they will be a strong competitor for another title.
Juventus is coming into this match without some key players. Marchisio and Bonucci are both sidelined for the upcoming match. Marchisio is out of play for some time now, whereas Bonucci will miss the match due to personal reasons. Still, the defensive line is well covered by Benatia and Rugani. Higuain on the other hand is expected to start the match on the bench.
With the quality players, Juventus has, I believe they are capable of winning this match, they have got the players and confidence, to walk in each game with intention to win it.
Lazio is happy with positive news. Anderson is back from the Olympic games, in addition Radu and Lulic are back from injury to improve the quality in the left side of the pitch. We can expect Lazio changing its formation to 3-4-4, while Bastos might have his debut as Inzagi looks to bring more defensive stability. Keita is expected be left out of the match due to a falling out with the coach.
Lazio is coming from a win in Atalanta (3:4) and are confident they can stand up to last years champions. They will want to prove they are a strong team, and what better way to do so, to show a good performance against Juventus. Of course they will need to play smart and should not be as open as they were in the opening match against Atalanta, where they conceived 3 goals.
Lazio might have high confidence and players coming from injury, but I don’t see they will be a real threat to improved Juventus. The Old Lady will want to start this season with a strong start, and they will strive to win every match. Against Lazio, Juventus is capable of a high scoring win, but being it’s the start of the season I think they will settle with a narrow win, as they won’t risk a lot. Pick Juventus to win this one against Lazio, who had somewhat poor preseason.
Prediction: Juventus to win
Odds: 1.94 Pinnacle
