In the 14th round of Premier League, Liverpool will host Everton in their 7th home match of the season.
Liverpool are currently 2nd in the league, with an overall record of 10-3-0, at home, their record stands at 5-1-0. Their form is phenomenal with 4-1-0 in the last 5 games played, with the only game they drew was against Arsenal (1:1) at Emirates Stadium. Looking at how they are performing, they have the strongest defense in the league, with only 5 conceded goals. On the other side, they scored a total of 26 goals, which is 4th best in the league. Despite their offensive power, they only scored 1 goal against Huddersfield and 2 against Fulham. This may seem like a decent result, but bare in mind, Huddersfield has conceded 24 goals, whereas Fulham conceded 33 goals in the 14 games played. So we did expect a better result from Liverpool. In their most recent match, Liverpool won 0:3 against Watford. The final result was far from surprising, as Liverpool had 64% ball possession, and 7 shots on goal, whereas Watford only produced 1 shot.
The visiting side, Everton are sitting at 6th place in the league, with an overall record of 6-4-3 and an away record of 1-3-2. In their last 5 games, they have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1. However, those results are surprisingly good. The game against Manchester United (2:1) was more or less decided by a penalty in 27′, when we saw United scoring their first goal. But looking at the whole match, the teams were fairly equal. Then there’s a draw against Chelsea (0:0) which was a great result for Everton, who, keep in mind are not the best team on the road. Chelsea had far more opportunities to score a goal in that match, but Everton stopped all of their 14 attempts. Everton might not have the best offense, but they proved to us they can defend their goal.
This should be an interesting match, just like most of the derbies are. Liverpool will be hoping to defend their home record, where they have not lost a match this season and we do believe that they are capable of doing so. A loss for Liverpool here would be surprising, to say the least. On the other side, Everton has shown exceptional work in their defensive end. In the past 5 league games, they only conceded 2 goals. Looking at the past 5 encounters between these two teams, the final score ended under 3 goals on 4 occasions, and I do believe this will be the case today as well. Liverpool might just win this one, but I don’t see them dominating Everton. Expect the final score to show less than 3 goals.
