Los Angeles Lakers v Memphis Grizzlies – NBA Betting Preview and Prediction
Everything is set for the Western Conference meeting between Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies, who will lock horns this Wednesday, October 30 at Staples Center, Los Angeles, where Lakers will look to claim their third in a row in front of the home fans.
LA Lakers entering game four with a 2-1 record
Los Angeles Lakers will enter their fourth fixture of the season with a 2-1 record, which they earned with very strong performances in the last two. Their season started with a painful 112:102 defeat against the city rivals LA Clippers, who completely decimated Lakers in the final quarter (27:17) to claim their first win of the season. While it was by no means a result Lakers wanted to see, Vogel’s squad did not give up and impressed with a 95:86 win over Utah Jazz followed by an exciting 120:101 win over Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
It’s hard not to be impressed with what Lakers have shown in their meeting with Utah Jazz, where they outclassed the elite defense of Jazz and scored 95 points. Looking back, Lakers earned an early lead (24:17), which they managed to extend even further in the third quarter (31:18), at which point they were already 74:55 up. Last quarter, while ending in Utah’s favor (31:21) was not nearly enough for the visitors to close the deficit, resulting in Jazz suffering their first L of the season. James was just phenomenal that night with 32 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists, while Davis scored 21, added seven rebounds and two assists. Their good form extended into the next game against Charlotte Hornets, where Davids earned a double-double with 29 points, 14 rebounds and three assists. James on the other side scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and had 12 assists. At this point, it’s worth noting six Lakers players scored 10 points or more, with Howard earning a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. While both Lakers stars played admirably well, the whole team put up a very solid performance, which earned them a dominant 120:101 win.
Memphis Grizzlies end their losing streak
Memphis Grizzlies started their 2019/20 campaign on the wrong foot seeing, how they lost both of their opening two fixtures. In game one, Grizzlies lost to Miami Heat (120:101), followed by a painful 102:110 defeat against Chicago Bulls. That said, they managed to bounce back with a thrilling 134:133 win over Brooklyn Nets this weekend, to secure their first W of the season. Looking back at that fixture, Irving was the leading scorer with 37 points seven rebounds and seven assists. Morant followed with 30 points, four rebounds and nine assists and LeVert was third with 27 points, four rebounds and five assists. Besides Morant, the two top-performing players for Grizzlies were Brooks with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists and Valanciunas with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
All in all, it was a performance that left a lot to be desired for Grizzlies, who did not look as strong as many had hoped. They did produce an upset that day, but at the end of the day, we can’t praise them too much, seeing how Nets were not playing as well as many had expected, especially in the defensive end, where they let Grizzlies hold onto a 42.4% accuracy from behind the arc, and Grizzlies took full advantage of that with by scoring 14 threes.
Verdict & Prediction
Grizzlies will enter this fixture without Iguodala and Jackson, while Lakers will miss Cousins, Horton-Tucker and Kuzma. Rondo will remain questionable. While we talk about missing players, Grizzlies’ Jonas Valanciunas is still on a minutes restriction, which could prove to be a huge problem for Grizzlies. Their lack of depth will leave them lacking in the big man department, which will work perfectly in Laker’s hands. They have a strong inside presence, so we can expect the Lakers to take full advantage of the situation and dominate inside the pain. All in all, Lakers look to be in great form and their two stars Davis and James are heading into this fixture after an excellent performance against Hornets. There is no doubt Lakers should win this one with relative ease and if we take into consideration how strong Lakers looked like in their meeting with Hornets on top of the Memphis’ lack of defensive options, we are confident Lakers should win this one with double digits to spare.
