Marseille v Lyon – Ligue One
18 Sep 2016, Stade Vélodrome, 18:45 GMT +0
Ligue One saved the best match of Round 5 for the last one this weekend as Marseille welcomes Lyon at Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.Neither of the teams have had a good start of the season. Let’s start by looking at home side, Marseille.
Marseille, who has finished last season at 13th place is just a shadow of what this team used to be. This season Marseille only managed to get 4 points out of 4 matches played. Losing against Guingamp (2:1) and Nice (3:2), whereas managed to win against Lorient (2:0) and draw against Toulouse (0:0). The performance showed really isn’t promising and if Marseille does not improve they just might end up fighting to stay out of relegation zone. The home side will start this match without a few players Alessandrini, Diaby and Diarra are all injured, whereas Fanni and Cabella are not fully fit for the upcoming fixture.
Lyon has had a better start of this season, winning both 2 opening matches against Nancy (0:3) and Caen (2:0). Despite the great start, next 2 matches were nothing more than disappointing. Defeat against Dijon (4:2) and Bordeaux (1:3) are something Lyon players will want to forget. Lyon will need to overcome those 2 losses if they wish to perform up to par against Marseille.
As for missing players, Lyon will have to pay without Fekir, Jallet, Lacazette, Valbuena, Gonalons and Mammana. Grenier is still not fully fit, so his appearance is doubtful.
VERDICT
Looking back at previous 3 fixtures between these two teams, we have not seen a winner not once. All of the matches ended in a draw. For today, we can expect a interesting football match. I expect it to be an open match with a lot of scoring opportunities, as both of the teams have see over 2.5 goals in past 2 matches this one should not be any different.
Prediction: Over 2.5
Odds: 2.00
