Newcastle Jets will play host to Perth Glory on Saturday, June 5, at McDonald Jones Stadium in their penultimate round of the 2020/2021 A-League season. The hosts have yet to defeat Glory this season, and while a win here won’t mean much, it would at least put them in a position where they’ll be able to escape the bottom of the table.
Newcastle Jets vs Perth Glory
When: Saturday, June 5 – 19:10 AEST
Where: McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Weather: Clear, 11°C
Low wind and moderate temperature are perfect weather conditions for football, and that’s what forecasted for Saturday evening in New South Wales. The weather will be football-friendly, but it’s safe to say that neither team will be too fired up for this clash.
The reason? Neither Newcastle Jets nor Perth Glory will make it to the A-League playoffs, regardless of what happens in this game. Still, there is an incentive for Newcastle Jets to win – they’d move away from the bottom of the A-League table.
Newcastle Jets Want to Get Away from the Bottom
Newcastle Jets sit at the very bottom of the Australian A-League table, with only 17 points to their name. On the bright side, they have played two games fewer than most other teams in the league, so they might avoid a humiliating finish if they do well in their next two.
As it stands now, Melbourne Victory sit one point ahead of the Jets. However, Victory will have to play the current frontrunners, Melbourne City in the final round, which gives the Jets hope that they can leapfrog them and finish in second-to-last.
That is if Victory don’t produce another upset as they did last month against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The good news for Jets is that they have finally started winning again. They’re coming off a win against the Central Coast Mariners, which was their first victory in 14 games, 11 of which ended in a loss.
With their tails up, Newcastle Jets are going for the win in Saturday’s match. The trouble is that they haven’t yet done it in 2021. In their most recent game, the score was 1-1, while in March, Perth Glory won 2-1.
Perth Glory Just Want to Wrap up the Season
Even though Newcastle Jets scored the least goals in the league, they shouldn’t find it too hard to find the back of the net against Perth Glory.
Perth Glory conceded 43 goals in 25 games, which is more than all but two other A-League teams. Furthermore, they have conceded at least a goal in each of their previous games.
When it comes to scoring, Perth Glory have been alright with 43 goals in 25 games, most of which came via Bruno Fornaroli with 12 goals to his name. However, the visitors might not be too fired up for this match, considering they’re already out of the playoffs race.
They are six points off the closest A-League playoff spot, with no chance of getting to the postseason, whatever happens on Saturday.
Newcastle Jets vs Perth Glory Betting Picks
We can see Newcastle Jets getting their fifth victory of the season this weekend. Although the player quality favors the visiting team, Perth Glory probably won’t be too motivated. With the support of their fans, the hosts could grab a win, which would lift them up from the bottom of the table (at least temporarily).
Prediction: Newcastle Jets +0.00 Asian Handicap (same as Draw no bet)
