There are ten NFL preseason games on the program this evening, some of which provide a great betting opportunity. We’re now going to preview two of those games, providing some betting picks along the way. So, let’s start!
Cincinnati Bengals vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
When: Saturday, August 14 – 19:30 EDT
Where: Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida
Weather: Cloudy, 28°C
Don’t expect to see the GOAT candidate Tom Brady to feature in this game. Even if he does, the legendary quarterback probably isn’t going to spend too many minutes on the field. However, this shouldn’t bother the Bucs too much – they’re not a one-man army!
In fact, the key reason why Bucks won the Super Bowl LV earlier this year is that their defence was brilliant. We saw them keep the Chiefs’ QB at bay in the big game in February.
The Bucs’ defence should have no problems dealing with the Bengals offence tonight. It’s not just because they’re far better than them, but also because the Cincinnati team will likely be without their starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, who’s still recovering from a torn ACL.
The big question is, can Cincinnati’s defence deal with Brady-less Buccaneers? Probably not. After all, the Bucs were famous as a high-scoring team even before Brady’s arrival in 2020. In fact, the season before, they scored 458 points in 16 games, fewer than only two other NFL teams.
Bengals last met with the Buccaneers in October 2018, when they won with 37-34. It marked their third head-to-head win across their last five meetings, with the other two finishing with 23-12 (August 2017) and 14-13 (November 2014). Buccaneers picked up the remaining two bouts in October 2010 (24-12) and August 2015 (25-11).
Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -6.00 Points – 1.98 Pinnacle
Houston Texans vs Green Bay Packers
When: Saturday, August 14 – 19:00 CDT
Where: Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin
Weather: Sunny, 24°C
The reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is expected to skill all of Green Bay’s preseason games – his coach doesn’t want to risk any injuries to the Packers’ key player.
However, that probably won’t affect the team too much in tonight’s game since Rodgers’ teammates should be in a very good mood heading to the Lambeau Field. The reason for this is that the trade saga regarding the QB is finally over – Rodgers agreed to stay in Wisconsin for at least another season.
They feel good about themselves, but do they have the offensive power to beat the Houston Texans? Sure they do! Actually, it seems that everyone in the NFL does.
Texans are one of the worst-ranked teams in the league ahead of the start of the new season.
With Rodgers as their QB, the Packers would tear apart the Texans. However, without him, they probably won’t win as dominant. Still, they should have a field day in this game as Rodgers’ replacement is a pretty solid quarterback.
The man in question is Jordan Love, who was their draft pick in 2020, for which the Packers traded up several selections in future drafts –sparking the Rodgers controversy.
The 22-year-old is eager to establish himself as the team’s future QB (once Rodgers departs), so you can expect him to do his best tonight. Another reason why Love is expected to shine against the Texans is that this is going to be his debut in the green-and-gold jersey.
He should have made his debut in the 2020 preseason but could not since the preseason got cancelled due to COVID. During the regular season, Love was once more left out of the action, with Packers fielding Rodgers as their starting QB throughout the entire year.
Prediction: Green Bay Packers -3.00 Points – 1.93 Pinnacle
