The NFL preseason finale starts this Friday with four games. We’ve already covered one – Detroit Lions vs Indianapolis Colts. If you would like to see what we think about the three remaining ones, you’re at the right place! We’re now going to cover each of those, proving our betting picks along the way. So, let’s start!
New York Jets vs Philadelphia Eagles
When: Friday, August 27 – 19:30 EDT
Where: MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey
Weather: Scattered thunderstorms, 27°C
The Eagles don’t seem to care much about the 2021 season. Their key players are either rookies or players in their early twenties. For them, the upcoming season is all about gaining experience and preparing for the future.
This explains why these guys haven’t done very well in the previous two games of the preseason. In fact, the Eagles did horribly in both of those games. First, they lost to the Steelers 24-16, followed by an embarrassing defeat to the Patriots of 35-0. Both of those games took place in Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, the New York Jets have been phenomenal this summer. They beat their city rivals Giants 12-7 in Week 1 of the preseason. In Week 2, they won against the Packers 23-14.
They should be able to extend their winning streak for at least one more game. Plus, wrapping up the preseason with a win in front of their crowd seems like a good enough motivation.
Prediction: New York Jets – 1.50 at Pinnacle
Carolina Panthers vs Pittsburgh Steelers
When: Friday, August 27 – 19:30 EDT
Where: Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina
Weather: Sunny, 33°C
The Panthers lost both of their preseason games; while The Steelers won both of theirs. So, what’s going to happen in Week 3?
Oddsmakers think Carolina will end their losing streak, and they seem to be right. The thing is that the Panthers’ coach has revealed his plan of playing most of his starters this evening, albeit only briefly.
Nevertheless, that should be enough for his team to get an advantage against the Steelers, whose team should be made up of backups this time. It wasn’t quite the case in the previous two games, in which Big Ben featured heavily. In fact, the veteran QB was the man most responsible for Pittsburgh winning the two preseason games.
However, coach Mike Tomlin probably has no intention of risking an injury for his key player, who’s already known as being very injury-prone. As a reminder, Roethlisberger missed 14 of 16 games in 2019 due to an injury. Now at the age of 39, he seems even more vulnerable.
Knowing that the regular NFL season starts in two weeks, Tomlin would be crazy if he let Big Ben play against the Panthers.
Prediction: Carolina Panthers – 1.56 at Matchbook
Kansas City Chiefs vs Minnesota Vikings
When: Friday, August 27 – 19:00 CDT
Where: Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri
Weather: Sunny, 33°C
Patrick Mahomes and all the other Kansas City Starters shouldn’t get too much playing time tonight. Coach Andy Reid wants to make sure they’re healthy and ready for the start of the 2021 NFL campaign. Instead of putting his key men on the field, he’s going to let the backups run the show.
The bad news for the Vikings is that the Chiefs’ backups are superb. In fact, they’ve already shown that in the two previous preseason games where they beat the Niners and the Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Vikings lost both of the preseason games, which is evidence that their boss doesn’t care about summer games. Instead, this team’s focus is the regular season.
For this reason, we probably aren’t going to see any of the Vikings‘ starters on the field tonight. And that means that they’re likely going to lose to the #1 Super bowl favourites.
Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs – 1.50 at Matchbook
