Oklahoma are coming into the new season with some changes in their roster. During the offseason, they brought P. George and C. Anthony into the team in exchange for Victor Oladipo, Domantas Sabonis, Enes Kanter and Dough McDermott. With these 2 great additions, they made it clear they are looking towards this years NBA title. And it does not seem so impossible if we consider the talent and experience their team has now. Their 1st match of the season will be against New York Knicks, who were on the losing side in their last 4 encounters against Oklahoma. In fact, Knicks have not been able to defeat Oklahoma since November of 2015. The history behind these two teams is showing Oklahoma is a favourite and with only one defeat in the preseason (against Houston Rockets 97:104) they seem to be ready to inflict another L to Knicks.
The visiting side, New York Knicks have gone through many changes in their roster, bringing a few young players in hopes to rebuild their team. They will be hoping Kristaps Porzingis is the man to lead this team, and as far as we could see, he is more than capable of it. He has had a great season last year and I can see he will build on it and improve as a player and a leader. The preseason was not so great for Knicks, who have lost all 5 of their games. This team has some issues they need to fix before we can see them as a serious threat to other teams. Keeping that in mind, they will have a hard time against improved Thunder, who are clearly the superior team in this match-up.
Verdict & Prediction
Oklahoma City Thunder will want to start off the season with a win, and they have the right opponents to do so. In addition to their superstars all seemingly in form, Anthony will most likely be additionally motivated, playing against his former team. Expect Thunder to win this one by quite a big margin.
