The match in the 6th round of Group F in Europa League will take place at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, Greece, where we will see Olympiakos hosting AC Milan in their 3rd H2H match in history.
Olympiakos are currently sitting at 3rd place in Group F with an overall record of 2-1-2. The 2 wins they got were achieved against Dudelange (0:2) and (5:1), whereas they were defeated against AC Milan (3:1) and Betis (1:0) in their most recent match. The Greek team is coming into this match with only 1 goal in mind, and that is to win, as any other result would see their Europa League campaign come to an end in front of their own fans. In the 2 home games they played, Olympiakos has performed well, drawing against Betis (0:0) and winning against Dudelange with 4 goals to spare (5:1). We can expect them to perform well at home ground, but will they be able to stop AC Milan who is still looking for a way to return to their former glory?
AC Milan is currently 2nd in Group F with an overall record of 5-3-1 and 10 points. The only defeat Milan suffered in Europa League thus far was against Betis at home (1:2), which was a disappointing performance from them, to say the least. Still, if we look past that match, Milan has been playing well, scoring 11 goals in 5 games whereas they conceded 6. The fact that Dundelange managed to score against Milan twice is concerning as it shows Milan can let in unnecessary goals, which can be exploited by Olympiakos who have proven they can score a goal. Milan will be looking to end this match with at least a draw, which would secure their spot in the knockout stages of Europa League. However, Milan should not chase a draw and approach this match too defensively as Olympiakos is expected to attack as they need to win.
Looking at H2H matches between these two sides, both have won once. Most recently Milan won (3:1) against Olympiakos at San Siro, however, we have seen before, Milan does not perform as good on the road. In that regard, Olympiakos has an advantage, but it does not mean it will be an easy match for them. Olympiakos will have nothing to lose today so we can expect them to step into this match with an attacking mindset, on the other side, Milan can’t allow Olympiakos to get too many chances, as an early goal from Greeks would put Milan in an uncomfortable position where they will need to chase a goal, which is the case in most of Milan matches. Milan tends to concede a goal and only then do they wake up. Most recently that was seen in a match against Dundelange, and even in a match against Parma in their domestic league. This should be an interesting match with plenty of attacking from the home side. I expect Olympiakos to approach highly attacking which could result in an early goal, just to “wake up” Milan. All in all, this match should be highly entertaining with plenty of attacking and at least a goal on each side.
Prediction: Over 2.50 goals
