Perth Glory vs Macarthur FC
When: Friday, April 30 – 19:05 AEST
Where: HBF Park in Perth, Australia
Weather: Clear, 16°C
Perth Glory will seek all three points on Friday, to take an inch closer to the final playoffs spot of the A-League. Having been very unconvincing of late, however, will require the host to step it up.
That said, they are hosting a team that hasn’t been too impressive recently either. Macarthur FC travel to HFB Park without a single win in their last four, which puts them in danger of dropping out of the top-six.
With a lot on the line for both teams, we are in for an exciting night of football. Which of the two will come out ahead, however, will solely depend on who will show up.
These sides last met at the start of the month, when Macarthur FC beat Perth 2-0 at Campbelltown Stadium. Can they do it again?
Perth Glory Struggling to Pick Up Points
Perth Glory are 5-3-8 on the season with 18 points, which is good for a 10th-place in the league. They have conceded 32 and scored 26 goals in 16 games, which are not exactly exciting marks.
In fact, Perth Glory have conceded the second-most goals out of any team in the league with the fewest games played and without a single clean sheet. They have on average conceded two goals per game, better than only Melbourne Victory with 2.61.
On a more positive note, Perth are fairly effective in the front. They have scored 26 goals this season, and at least once in all of their home games thus far. Much of their scoring has come via Bruno Fornaroli who has eight goals to his name.
Perth tend to perform better at home and are unbeaten in four of their six matches at HBF Park. That, however, is hardly any consolation, seeing how they’ve lost their last home match against Wellington Phoenix with 1-3.
Macarthur FC Still Solid
Macarthur FC enter this match with an 8-4-7 record on the season and 28 points, which is good for a fifth spot in the league. It’s fair to say that the Bulls are holding on well in their debut year, despite their 1-2-2 record from the last five.
Since their win against Perth Glory (2-0), Macarthur FC have yet to add another three points. They lost the next two games against Brisbane Roar (1-2) and Adelaide United (1-3), and drew their last two against Newcastle Jets (2-2) and Melbourne City (1-1).
As a team that is without a win in their last four, Macarthur Fc might not look too good on paper. That said, they’re coming into this match off a 1-1 draw with the current A-League frontrunners.
Similar to Perth, Macarthur also struggle to keep things tight in the back. They have conceded 27 goals in 19 games and scored 24. Most of those goals came via Matt Derbyshire, who has found the back of the net 11 times in 19 games.
Matt Derbyshire is also quite an interesting player. When he’s in form, no one can match him, but when he’s cold, he becomes more of a liability for his team. To elaborate, he has scored 11 goals but has also had 46 shots off target.
Perth Glory vs Macarthur FC Betting Picks
Perth Glory have lost six of their last 10 games, whereas Macarthur lost only four in the same stretch. Even without those numbers, it’s easy to see which side should be considered as the most likely victors.
The Bulls already won this match just four weeks ago, and while Perth generally performs better at home, that hardly convinces us they have what it takes to win. Perhaps we might see a draw, but this definitely doesn’t seem like a match Perth Glory can win.
Prediction: Macarthur FC +0.25 Asian Handicap
