Philadelphia Union v San Jose Earthquakes – MLS Betting Preview + Prediction
30 Apr 2016, PPL Park , 20:00 GMT +2
Philadelphia Union come into the game following a 2-0 win over New York City last weekend. The win was their fourth of the season and lifted them to 8th overall. The side have struggled to find consistency and have exchanged wins and losses for the past five matches but have scored 8 in that time, only conceding 4. The good news for the side is that they are scoring goals from all over the pitch with Sapong, Le Toux and Ponitus all in good goalscoring form. The side have conceded an average of a goal a game however and will need to tighten up slightly or risk dropping vital points in the coming weeks. They have only conceded seven goals but the side have only kept two clean sheets, conceding in most matches. They’ll need to shore up the defence slightly going forward and start to pick up some more clean sheets and keep up their decent start.
San Jose come into the game following a 1-0 win over Sporting KC last weekend, a victory that saw them lifted to 5th place as they continue some good form with two wins and two draws in their last 5 games. This has been spearheaded by a squad that have scored in each game so far this season whilst keeping three clean sheets. The side have been boosted by the goalscoring form of Wondolowski, who has scored 7 of the sides 11 goals so far this season and he tops the MLS goalscoring charts so far. There is a worry that if his form dips the side could suffer in front of goal though with no other playing scoring more than 1 so far this term. The form of Wondolowski has been the biggest plus for the side with the striker scoring seven so far. The rest of the squad haven’t responded though and no one else is really scoring consistently and if Wondolowski’s form drops this could be a problem.
Given the nature of huge home advantage in MLS, I expect Philly to take all three points.
