Denmark will play host to Russia on Monday, June 21, at Parken Stadium for their final EURO 2020 fixture. It will mark their first meeting since 2012, when Russia won 2-0, albeit they have yet to meet in the Danish capital, where the Dynamite will enjoy the support from their home fans.
Russia vs Denmark
When: Monday, June 21 – 21:00 CEST
Where: Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark
Weather: Cloudy 16°C
Referee: Clément Turpin (FRA)
With two losses to their name, Denmark enter this match with no points and a 1-3 goal difference. Their journey at EURO 2020 will end today; however, that doesn’t mean the Danish Dynamite won’t be motivated to perform.
Russia will take a trip to Copenhagen after securing their spot in the knockout stage with a narrow and somewhat underserved win against Finland. They might end finishing EURO 2020 higher than the Danes, but it’s hard to be overly optimistic about Russians and their chances to impress tonight.
Russia’s Uninspiring Results
Russia edged past Finland (1-0) on Wednesday, however, it was an undeserved win. Finland scored the opener in 5’ but got denied the celebration by VAR, with Russians responding in 45’+2 with a goal via Aleksey Miranchuk.
Even though Finland were unable to equalise the match, it’s not like Russians showcased anything spectacular. It was a very underwhelming match that further confirmed that Russia aren’t very good.
That, however, is no big news since we weren’t too big on Stanislav Cherchesov’s men prior to EURO 2020. They are now 3-2-5 in their last 10 outings, with wins against Malta (3-1), Slovenia (2-1), and now Finland (1-0), and it would be hard to say the Russians impressed in any of those bouts.
In regards to team news, Cherchesov won’t be able to count on Mario Fernandes and Yuri Zhirkov. Fyador Kudryashov could return today. Outside of that, we don’t expect any changes in Russia’s starting XI.
Denmark Better Than What Their Record Suggests
Denmark are without a single point, but that is hardly an accurate representation of this team’s quality. Their loss against Finland in their EURO 2020 opener was unfortunate as there were outside factors that impacted the Danes.
To that, the Dynamite added a 1-2 loss against Belgium on Thursday but played extremely well. Denmark took the lead with a 2’ goal and were clearly the better team for the first 45 minutes.
Things took a sudden turn for the worse in the second half when Denmark were unable to break through Belgium’s midfield that now featured Kevin De Bruyne. Still, the Danes produced 13 attempts and three shots on goal; unfortunately, none found the target.
Although Belgium ended the day as the better team, we were quite impressed with what the Danes have shown. They forced Belgium out of their comfort zone and had the Red Devils on their toes for a good portion of the game.
Russia vs Denmark Betting Picks
Despite what their record might suggest, Denmark are a much better team than Russia. What Kasper Hjulmand’s men produced against Belgium was truly remarkable and a good indication of how good the Danes can be.
The fact that Denmark forced Belgium to bring their A-game while Russians suffered a devastating 0-3 loss against the same opponent is a good enough indication that there’s a massive quality gap between these two sides.
A win today won’t mean much, but heading back home empty-handed won’t be an option for Denmark.
