Sassuolo vs Sampdoria
When: Saturday, April 24 – 20:45 CEST
Where: Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia, Italy
Weather: Sunny, 21°C
Referee: Matteo Gariglio
Sassuolo and Sampdoria have been showing good form of late, slaying some footballing giants along the way.
In April, we saw Sassuolo play out a draw with AS Roma, to which they added a win against AC Milan on the road in their most recent game. Similarly, Sampdoria snatched a point from AC Milano in an away game at the start of the month.
Thanks to all this, the two are flying high in Serie A table. Sassuolo and Sampdoria are currently occupying 8th and 9th place respectively. Neither team likely won’t be able to get much higher than that, but at the same time, they can’t sink much deeper.
Sassuolo Coming Off a Big Win
As predicted with our AC Milan vs Sassuolo betting pick, Sassuolo surprised AC Milan and snatched the win, despite entering the match as huge underdogs. What’s perhaps even more impressive that they did it despite trailing 0-1 until 76′, yet still managed to turn things around in their favor.
Obviously, getting a win in such a manner against such a big team should boost their players’ confidence ahead of their next match. This goes especially for Giacomo Raspadori who scored both of Sassuolo’s goals in that game.
The 21-year-old came in as a substitute for Defrel in 64′. Twelve minutes later, he scored the equalizer and added one more in 83′ to secure his team the win.
Raspadori is likely to start the game against Sampdoria. Apart from the impressive performance he put on against AC Milan, there’s another reason for this. Sassuolo are still without their no.9, Francesco Caputo, who remains their second top-scorer of the season.
Speaking of absentees, Filip Djuricic will also miss this game due to serving a suspension (yellow cards).
On the bright side for Sassuolo, defender Kaan Ayhan is ready to make his comeback. He was out with an injury since early March, but before that, he was one of Sassuolo’s key men at the back.
Sampdoria’s Captain Fabio Quagliarella to Miss Tonight’s Action
Similarly to Sassuolo, Sampdoria will also miss a couple of important players, most notably, the team captain Fabio Quagliarella.
The veteran striker is reportedly out with a thigh bruise and will have to sit out this game. That could mean serious problems for Sampdoria for several reasons.
Firstly, he’s their leading scorer in 2021, with 11 goals to his name. The second on that list is Balde Keita with 5, which explains how important Quagliarella has been for Sampdoria this season.
Furthermore, the 38-year-old has been in a goal-scoring mood lately. He scored the only goal in Sampdoria’s game with Crotone in the previous round. He also scored his team’s only goal in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan.
Against Sassuolo, Sampdoria will miss another striker – Ernesto Torregrossa. They’ll likely also be without Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
Sassuolo vs Sampdoria Betting Picks
Knowing that both teams have been playing well lately, it’s only logical to assume this is going to be an exciting game, with plenty of opportunities on both ends.
Still, Sassuolo seem to be in better shape at the moment. Plus, Sampdoria will be without their most important player in this game. For these reasons, the home team looks destined to win.
Prediction: Sassuolo -0.50 AH, 1.98 Sportmarket
