Sevilla v Levante – LaLiga Betting Preview and Prediction

Sevilla entered the 2019/20 season with serious inspirations to return back to among the elite Spanish teams and possibly even contest a Champions League spot for the next season. That said, Los Palanganas found themselves in a bit of a slump as of late, losing three out of the last four. Nonetheless, the Sunday’s fixture against Levante will be Julen Lopetegui’s side to lose as they face off against Levante at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in Sevilla.

Sevilla and their high aspirations

Following a disappointing campaign last season, Sevilla completely revamped their squad during summer, with several new arrivals and to compensate for all the departures. The final product of which seems to have strengthened the squad overall, who stepped into the 2019/20 season of LaLiga with high hopes and determination to leave a mark. ICYM, Los Nervionenses also brought in former Spain national team and Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui, who is seen by many as the man who will bring Sevilla back to their former glory. And it sure seemed like Sevilla are well on their way back to the top. At least at the start of the season, when Sevilla enjoyed a flawless start. A 0:2 win over Espanyol, followed by 0:1 win over Granada, 1:1 draw with Celta Vigo and 0:1 win over Alaves put Sevilla back on the map. That said, their results over the past month haven’t proven to be quite as fruitful as they had hoped, considering Sevilla lost three out of their last four, which pushed them to eighth place in the league. The Andalusians lost to Real Madrid (0:1), Eibar (3:2), edged past Real Sociedad (3:2) and most recently lost to Barcelona (4:0). Those results suggest something isn’t quite clicking in the squad just yet and while the season is still young, Sevilla need to step up to reach their aspirations.

Levante looking to make a statement

Looking at the 2018/19 season, Levante proved to be one of the most exciting and entertaining sides to watch, seeing how they saw a total of 125 goals across 38 league games, meaning they were only second to Barcelona, who produced 126 goals. That said, Los Granotas saw “only” 20 goals in their fixtures so far (10:10). As it stands now, Levante are sitting at 11th place in the league with a 3-2-3 record next to their name and 11 points. Most of their points came from home games, where Levante hold onto a 2-2-0 record, whereas their road fixtures resulted in only three points in four travels (1-0-3). On a more positive note, Levante’s only away win was also their most recent away fixture, when Lopez’s men triumphed over Leganes (1:2).

Looking at Levante’s performance overall, their biggest concern going forward is their leaky defence, which, as mentioned above conceded 10 goals already, That on its own is only the continuation of Levante’s defensive issues from last season, when they conceded 66 goals in 38 fixtures, which, bear in mind, as only second to Rayo Vallecano (70 goals), who finished at the bottom of the table.

Verdict & Prediction

While it’s hard to praise Levante’s defence and their performances so far, they at least manage to compensate it with their solid attack, which gives them a decent chance to keep most of their fixtures at least somewhat competitive. It’s worth noting that Levante lost only one of their eight fixtures so far with two goals or more, suggesting they are more than capable of keeping their matches close. As far as their away games are concerned, there is a similar pattern, with only one out of their last 10 away games across all competitions resulting in a defeat by a margin of two goals. Sevilla on the other side enjoys a fairly strong home record, where they come off as a very consistent team. That said, they covered the -1.5 handicap in only 32% of their matches since the start of last season. All things considered, Levante should put up a solid fight at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, and while we can hardly expect them to walk away victorious, we can at least trust them to keep this one close.
