Spezia will play host to Torino tonight, on Saturday, May 15 at Stadio Alberto Picco, where they’ll be chasing crucial points that would keep them out of the relegation zone. Both sides are just four points clear of the bottom three, however, with only one more match remaining for the hosts, Spezia can’t afford to walk away from this bout empty-handed.
Spezia vs Torino
When: Saturday, May 15 – 15:00 CEST
Where: Stadio Alberto Picco in La Spezia, Italy
Weather: Mostly cloudy, 17°C
Referee: Daniele Orsato
Spezia and Torino are at 35 points, which puts them just above the regelation zone with two more rounds to go. Although there’s still a chance for Benevento to leapfrog one of them, such a scenario seems very unlikely.
For that to happen, Benevento would have to win both of the remaining games, while Spezia/Torino would have to lose all of their scheduled matches.
On the other side, a win for either of the two would guarantee one another season in the Italian top-flight. The losing team, in this case, would have one (Spezia) or two games (Torino) remaining to make amends.
Considering that Torino have played one game fewer than Spezia, time is ticking for the home side. That, however, should only work in their favor and make them more motivated to claim all three points today.
Spezia Determined to Stay in the League
After this one, Spezia will play their final match of Serie A against AS Roma. Since I Giallorossi are much stronger than Torino and will prove to be a much tougher nut to crack for Vincenzo Italiano’s men, Spezia will want to get the job done today.
A win for Bianconeri tonight would put them seven points ahead of Benevento, effectively meaning Benevento would not be able to pass them on the standings – securing Spezia another run in Serie A next season.
The trouble is that winning matches is not something that Spezia do very often. In fact, they have managed to win only eight games out of 36 this season. What’s more, Spezia’s last victory came on April 10, when they edged past Crotone with 3-2.
They have since gone winless in their next six bouts, which includes three losses – against Bologna (1-4), Genoa (0-2), and Napoli (1-4) – and three draws with Inter (1-1), Verona (1-1), and Sampdoria (2-2).
On the bright side, most of Spezia’s key men are fit and ready. Defender Julian Chabot is the most notable absentee, as he’s played 25 games this season. All other absentees have played fewer than 15.
Shaken Torino Coming Off a 7-0 Defeat to AC Milan
Torino enter tonight’s match after a humiliating loss to AC Milan, who obliterated them 7-0 on Wednesday. Although that marked Torino’s only third loss in their last 10, picking themselves up after such a performance isn’t going to be easy.
It was Torino’s worst defeat at home in their history and it’s also tied for their all-time worst loss. Interestingly enough, it was no other than AC Milan who were involved in that game, when they beat Torino 7-0 in season 1949-50.
There are many things that went into Torino’s loss, but the key factor was missing key players. The bad news is that most of them will remain sidelined for today’s match as well.
Nicola Murru, Vanja Milinkovic-Savić, and Amer Gojak are out with an injury. Karol Linetty is suspended due to too many yellow cards.
Spezia vs Torino Betting Picks
Spezia seem to have the upper hand in this game. Not only is the confidence of Torino players very questionable following the embarrassing defeat to AC Milan, but they will again miss several important players.
Spezia need all three points and they should be super-determined to do just that, although even a draw would not be too bad for either of the two sides. Last time out (January), Torino and Spezia parted ways with a 1-1 draw at Stadio Olimpico di Torino.
Prediction: Spezia +0.25 Asian Handicap
