Sydney Kings v Adelaide 36ers – NBL Betting Preview and Prediction

Adelaide 36ers will kick off their 2019/20 NBL season with a clash with Sydney Kings on Saturday, October 12 at Qudos Bank Arena in what will not only be their first fixture of the season but quite possibly one of the hardest matches they will have to endure. That being said, the clash between the two sides will not be anything less than an exciting fixture for several reasons.

Sydney chasing their second win of the season

Sydney Kings started off their 2019/20 NBL campaign with a win against Cairns Taipans (79:71), which was not all too convincing result. While Kings impressed with their performance in the final quarter, they underperformed in all of the first three.

Looking back, Cairns completely outscored Kings in Q1, where they earned a seven-point lead (20:13). While Kings managed to bounce back slightly by reducing the gap by four points in the second quarter (24:20), the Sydney outfit failed to impress in Q3, where they were once again outscored, despite only by two points (20:22). That being said, Kings switched into a higher gear in Q4, where they trashed Cairns with a 22:8 score, to win the match with eight points to spare (79:71). Unlike in the first three quarters, Kings’ star power really showed up in the fourth and if they can keep up with such performances for the remainder of the season, Sydney will be solid contenders for the title.

In the clash with Cairns Ware scored 23 points, to which he added two rebounds and five assists. Lisch followed with 18 points, two rebounds and one assist, and Tate ended up third best scorer of the day with 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

Jerome Randle back to prove his worth

Jerome “Handle” Randle has returned back to NBL and not only is he back in the NBL, but he also returned to Adelaide, a team that helped him win the MVP award in the 2016/17 season. There are some questions surrounding why he decided to part ways with Kings. Some speculate the issue was of a financial nature, others believe Kings did not trust him he has what it takes to win them the title and then there are third who believe he left to avoid a potential injury. But in the end, nobody knows for sure. Nonetheless, what we know for sure it’s that he is back and hungry to prove a point and it’s safe to say he already left a mark on his new team. Looking back at Adelaide’s clash with Utah Jazz on Saturday, October 5, Randle impressed with 18 points three rebounds, two assists and three steals. And while Adelaide badly lost (81:133), it’s hard to not be impressed with what the 32-year old showed.

There are some concerns about whether he can keep up and be a driving force behind Adelaide throughout the whole season, and while we will never know for sure if he can keep up with NBL’s tempo, we can safely say he will have a huge impact in this upcoming fixture. And not only because we believe he is better compared to his replacement at Kings (Ware), but also because there will be some emotions involved in this match, seeing how Randle has a lot to prove to his former team.

Verdict & Prediction

Jerome Randle will surely have a big impact on Saturday’s match, however, we have to ask ourselves if Randle alone can carry his team to victory. The answer is yes and no. In other words, if Kings produce anything similar to what they have shown against Cairns, we believe Adelaide could run them over and produce an upset win. That being said, Will Weaver was surely not satisfied with what his team has shown and we expect him to push his squad to improve. It’s also worth noting Bogut did not step up in terms of scoring in game one for Kings (4 points), but he did put up 12 rebounds and four assists. All in all, it’s hard to be too negative about Kings’ chances to win this one and should the whole team step up as they did in Q4 against Cairns, Sydney outfit should have this one in the bag.
