England will look to take one step closer to “bringing it back home” on Saturday, July 3, when they take on Ukraine at Stadio Olimpico in the final quarter-finals match of EURO 2020. These two teams haven’t met once since 2013, when they parted ways with a 0-0 stalemate at the World Cup qualifiers.
Ukraine vs England
When: Saturday, July 3 – 21:00 CEST
Where: Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy
Weather: Partly cloudy, 30°C
Referee: Felix Brych (GER)
England have emerged as the main betting favourites to win EURO 2020. Their next obstacle on the road to the title are Ukraine, a team that’s been far from impressive so far.
Ukraine can count themselves lucky to make it thus far at the tournament. They beat Sweden in the last round, albeit needed a 121′ goal to edge past a team that was missing one player.
Obviously, England are expected to beat Ukraine tonight without any issues. However, Shevchenko’s men have shown many times that they know how to upset the odds. Can they do it again?
Ukraine Hoping to Upset the Odds
It’s been a strange tournament for Ukraine so far. First, they lost to the Netherlands in their EURO 2020 group stage opener with 2-3, although they did give the Dutch a run for their money after pulling back from 2-0 down.
After losing their tournament opener, the Blue and Yellow bounced back with a 2-1 victory over North Macedonia.
Ukraine ended their EURO 2020 group stage with a 0-1 loss to Austria; however, thanks to Sweden beating Poland, Ukraine got to the knockout stage as the third-placed team in their group. Ukraine ended the tournament’s first stage as the fourth-best rated third-placed team of EURO 2020, thus booking the last available ticket for Round 16.
That’s where they met the Swedes, who came into that game as favourites. The score was 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Ukraine found the game-winning goal just a couple of moments before the end of the match – they scored in the first minute of the stoppage time in the second half of the extra time.
England Going for the Title
Before the start of the tournament, the Three Lions were priced as the second-favourites to win the title, just behind France. But after France’s elimination, England are now expected to take the trophy home. That’s not surprising since they have a fantastic team this year, with plenty of power in the final third.
Still, it’s their defence that’s been most impressive so far. England have yet to concede a goal in this tournament and hold a 4-0 GD after four EURO 2020 fixtures.
England score half of their EURO 2020 goals in their win against Germany on Tuesday. It was an excellent performance for England, who outshone Germany in all aspects of play, although it did take them 75 minutes to break the deadlock.
That day, England shifted into a higher gear for the last 15 minutes of the game, which coincided with Jack Grealish coming onto the pitch. The Aston Villa playmaker was superb against Germany and will probably get his chance tonight. He is expected to replace Bukayo Saka, who is reportedly struggling with fitness.
Ukraine vs England Betting Picks
There’s no denying that England are a much better team than Ukraine. Although they haven’t been too effective in the final third, it’s hard to say that situation is much different with Ukraine. The latter managed three goals in their last three outings, albeit two came against North Macedonia.
It’s time for England to show the continent why they’re the #1 favorites for the trophy. With their talent and the form the Three Lions have been showing, they should get the job done with ease within 90 minutes.
Pick: England -1.00 Asian Handicap (England have to win by at least two goals for the bet to win, if the they win by only one, the bet is void)
