Verona vs Inter Milan
When: Friday, August 27 – 20:45 CEST
Where: Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in Verona, Italy
Weather: Sunny, 19°C
Verona enter this bout following a 2-3 loss against Sassuolo on Saturday. It was an unfortunate match for the hosts, who had to play with 10 men for the entirety of the second half, and while they held on well, Verona weren’t able to start the season with a W.
Inter Milan, enjoyed an entirely different experience in their season opener, with a 4-0 win against Genoa, marking their seventh straight win across all competitions. With the form Inter have been showing, they should confident in their ability to make it eight in a row, but will they be able to deliver?
Inter Milan With A Strong Start
Simone Inzaghi’s men kicked off their 2021/22 season with a commanding 4-0 victory against Genoa, where four different players scored, including Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Edin Dzeko, who got their names on the board in their debut with their new club.
Inter Milan dominated the match from start to finish, and they could have easily won by five goals had one of their goals wasn’t ruled out for offside. Regardless, it was an excellent showing from Nerazzurri, who are now unbeaten in their last seven.
During that stretch, Inter won against Udinese (5-1), Lugano (3-2), Pro Vercelli (4-0), Crotone (6-), Parma (2-0), and Dynamo Kyiv (3-0), who they met in the final friendly match before the 2021/22 Serie A season kicked off.
For this match, Inter will miss Christian Eriksen, Roberto Gagliardini, and Alexis Sánchez, while Lautaro Martínez remains doubtful. We can expect the visitors to use the same 3-5-1-1 formation, with Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, and Stefano Sensi on the pitch. Denzel Dumfries and Vidal could also feature.
Verona Looking To Bounce Back
Verona can’t feel too happy with how they started their 2021/22 Serie A season. Their first opponent of the season was Sassuolo, who Verona met with at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
The hosts were priced as the favourites yet conceded the first goal in 32′ to go one down. Then, disaster struck in the 45’+1, when Miguel Veloso picked up his second yellow in just 10 minutes, leaving his team to battle through the second half with a man down.
Sassuolo took advantage of the situation and added the second in 51′, albeit gave up a penalty in the 71′, which Mattia Zaccagni converted to give his team a fighting chance. The excitement, however, didn’t last for long, with Sassuolo responding with their third goal in 77′.
Zaccagni added his second in 90′ to reduce the gap to 2-3, but it was too late, too little for Verona. The hosts played well, and it’s fair to say that they would have secured at least a point had Veloso not made a mistake.
Still, playing well won’t cut it against the in-form Inter, especially with Manuel Locatelli joining Juventus, leaving Verona short on quality. Adding to the concerns, Kevin Lasagna and Davide Faraoni are both doubtful for tonight’s match.
Verona vs Inter Milan Betting Pick
Inter Milan are expected to dominate today, and we can’t argue with that. They’re the reigning Serie A champions, and while the Yellow and Blue seem to be in good shape, it’s the lack of quality that should prevent them from achieving much.
Inter already made easy work of Genoa in their Serie A opener, and while they might not be able to emulate that performance and walk away with four goals to spare, the champions shouldn’t struggle too much in securing a comfortable win.
